I think it's ironic I'm reviewing this in the middle of Spring, just when the weather is getting warmer. I'm talking about Season 3's Flintstones' episode Here's Snow In Your Eyes, written by Joanna Lee. I think this is the 1st time we got to hear on The Flintstones Hoyt Curtin's musical scores made for The Jetsons. The story is a little like The Beauty Contest episode in Season 2, albiet with more action and adventure. John Stephenson plays a TV and radio announcer, a policeman and an English Butler (one of the jewel thieves). Jean Vander Pyl plays a Brooklyn Maid (the Butler's partner in crime). Doug Young plays the Beauty Contest Manager, a photographer and Chip Marble, the 3rd wheel in the jewel heist. Bea Benederet plays the sexy Miss Winter Carnival. Plot summary: Wilma complains about how dull doing housework is. Betty comes over and tells Wilma, according to her horoscope, an exciting adventure is coming. Wilma hears from a neighbor that Fred and Barney have been chosen to represent the Water Buffalo Lodge at Stone Mountain Ski Resort. Wilma and Betty go our and but some clothes. So Fred comes home and Wilma already has the news. Unfortunately for her, wives were not included to join them. Wilma is devastated but Fred tries to comfort her in telling her she can keep the things she bought and they'll all go together in the future. So Fred and Barney leave the next morning. Wilma and Betty turn on the TV and hear about a Maid and Butler involved in a jewel theft and hiding out at Stone Mountain. Then they hear about a beauty contest going on there, too. So they decide to go to Stone Mountain themselves, but in disguise. At the same time they're on the way, so are the Maid and Butler. The Butler tells the Maid the password to pass on the diamond is slalom and to give it to a short blond man. So the Maid sees Barney, thinking that's the man the Butler was referring to and whispers "Psst, slalom!" Barney yells Fred and Fred thinks that's a special greeting at Stone Mountain. When Wilma and Betty get to Stone Mountain, a man thinks they're one of the contestants for the beauty contest and tells them to get ready and put on their bathing suits. "What were you expecting to wear in the beauty contest? Long underwear?!" What they don't realize is they have to pose in the cold. A photographer has them pose with a sexy brunette who irritates Wilma and Betty with her showing off. So the photographer suggests they pose with snowballs in their hands and they let the brunette have it! They later quit the beauty contest. Fred and Barney take a ski lift and up the hill, they get cold feet and go down. There, they encounter the Maid and Butler going up. Barney naively greets the Maid "Hey, lady, slalom! Slalom!" The Maid snaps "And slalom to you, too!," and hands him the diamond. Barney thinks it was a mistake and they go back up the hill. There, the real short blond named Chip Marble shows up, says "Slalom!" and demands the diamond. Barney listens and relaizes he's in trouble! So Barney jumps on Fred and they go down the hill together with Fred wearing only one ski! The jewel heist trio follow them down the hill with the other ski. Fortunately, Fred and Barney grab onto a tree branch and the 3 crooks fall off the cliff and get stuck onto another mountain. The policeman is amazed by what happens. Wilma and Betty see them being interviewed. Fred feeds the press a big fat story and Miss Winter Carnival (the sultry brunette Wilma and Betty didn't like) offers to pose with them. They politely decline, claiming "We already have beauty queens at home to pose with." They announce they're going home and so Wilma and Betty must best them home. Wilma asks Betty what her horoscope read. Betty says "Guard against exposure, draft and cold." But it's too late! They wind up sneezing. The next day, Wilma reads all about it in the paper, with her feet in hot water and a blanket draped around her. Fred announces he and Barney plan to take her and Betty to Stone Mountain with the reward money Wilma, still undergoing flu symptoms, is less than ecstatic! What I liked: As much as I enjoyed this episode, it was a hard one to review, as there's so much to cover. Wilma's "piggy bank" looks more like a mastadon, whereas Betty's looks like a rhino. I liked the English accent of the Butler. It made him sound very intellectual. And I liked the Brooklyn accent on the Maid, which made her sound street smart and cynical. I liked the comments of the animal servants. The porcupine used as a brush. He actually enjoys his job, which is rare in the world of The Flintstones. A baby rhino operating the ski lift whines "People come here for fun and exercise. Oh sure, they have fun! But who gets all the exercise?!" And Fred is understanding to Wilma's disappointment she wasn't invited. They even try to invite them to the resort. By the way, slalom is really a ski race down a winding course marked by flags or poles. Most of all, I like seeing the camraderie between Wilma and Betty, coming up with solutions to their boredom and frustration together. That's why I give this episode 10 ski lifts out of 10!
