This was NOT Dino
gregorycanfield3 May 2022
My take on this episode is exactly opposite to the opinion of the other reviewer. Dino had already appeared in at least two episodes, prior to this one. The appearance of this "snorkasauras" character made no sense, unless it was intended as some kind of "back story" to how Dino became the Flintstones' pet. This character, however, was twice as big as the original Dino, and was able to talk. Again, it didn't really make sense. I, for one, am glad that this "snork" made only one appearance in the series. The character was unappealing, both visually and in terms of the annoying voice he had. If "Dino" had continued in this mode, that would have been detrimental to the series. The Dino we all know and love is the only version I care to see.

Strange vibe and continuity
vitoscotti6 December 2022
Jerry Mann's snorkasaurus voice for one episode is a novelty. But, they made the right decision making it one and out. It would be annoying after awhile. He's probably my least favorite voice actor so far on the series. A very strange episode indeed. Dino has been in the intro from the beginning. Then he pops up red a few episodes greeting Fred after work. Now he's new and purple brought back from the wilderness. The hunting with clubs theme was very creepy. The super highway/garage/cop bits were very funny. Episode even though it had some laughs was not one I'd rewatch soon. The vibe of it was off with hunting and Phil Silvers Dino.

Makes me wonder about another Hanna-Barbera casting decision
bpatrick-914337 June 2023
If you haven't guessed already, I'm referring to Top Cat. He was also modeled on Phil Silvers' Sgt. Bilko (heck, Maurice Gosfield, the voice of Benny the Ball, was Doberman on the Bilko show), so why not Jerry Mann as TC's voice? He had Silvers down to a T. I guess Arnold Stang was better-known, and he's just fine as TC (his voice is a little easier on the ear than Mann's), but it does leave me to wonder why Bill and Joe passed over a guy who was already working for them and wouldn't have to pay him as much. Oh, well. Top Cat is an overlooked gem which might have had a longer run in primetime except that not many adults were going to watch a show about animals at 8:30 PM. But I digress.

Dino

Warning: Spoilers
This is actually Dino . It's the first episode with Dino filmed but not the first one aired . I think perhaps they decided before hand Dino would be a family pet not a butler. He is bigger and speaks and has different coloring in this one .

I think they just decided Dino would work better as a pet . I like this episode a lot but I see why it was abandoned. Dino the pet is so completely lovable. Later animated shows would have elements of the talking pet and often it works. I doubt Dino would have been shown that much if he remained this way if he had it would have been a completely different show. Still it's an interesting stand alone episode.

JERRY MANN's "Dino" is marvelous
Enrique-Sanchez-5613 February 2016
There is something thoroughly charming in this episode. Something which was never to return, for some reason, now lost to the ravages of time.

I am speaking of Jerry Mann's characterization of the "Snorkasaurus." There is something erudite, fussy, clever and very likable about Mr. Mann's singular performance. It begs for more but alas. it wasn't to be. It seems that Hanna-Barbera decided instead to make the Flintstone's pet lose the power of speech and "humanly" reasoning.

That was a great loss to us all. Had they continued on with this, the series would have profited from the involvement of a talking-reasoning "snorkasaurus".

I have little knowledge of who Mr. Mann was or what he looked like. Something which I am eagerly investigating now. Suffice it to say that he entire "persona" of this character is unforgettable..
