Great Cast

Jack Weston was a very under-rated actor. He was great as the thug with a conscience that gets him killed in "Wait Until Dark" and here he does a similar turn. A woman is hunting down Weston for killing her brother during the Civil War. Weston feels guilty about it, and is willing to give her a chance to kill him.

Palladin gets involved out of pity for Weston and sympathy for his wife. He tracks the woman played (by Paula Raymond) back to Weston when she hires a gunman to kill Weston. The gunman is played very well as a nasty and arrogant killer by Ron Soble. Soble made a long career out of playing thugs and henchmen.

Eventually there is an excellent confrontation between Palladin, Soble, and Weston. There is also a dramatic moment of confrontation with Weston and Raymond that is very touching. This episode has a lot of good drama and also excellent action scenes.

Warning: Spoilers
Jack Weston was an interesting choice to play a former soldier who was so plagued by guilt for killing a woman's brother during the Civil War that he forgives her again and again and won't press charges when she tries to kill him. Weston is a very sympathetic actor. I just don't buy him as a "kill or be killed" Union soldier.

Other than the casting of Weston, the rest of the episode is pretty good as Paladin witnesses Miss McIntosh (the comely Paula Raymond) try to kill Weston's character right in front of his eyes. She has a little Maureen O'Hara in her, with a bit of fire in her eyes. Ron Soble who made a career out of playing henchmen and goons (memorably getting punched in the face by Jim Rockford when he played sleazy detective Kermit Higby on "The Rockford Files") is good here as the gun McIntosh hires to kill Weston's character when Paladin turns her down.

Good direction by Ida Lupino, and some nice action scenes highlight the episode.
