Warning: Spoilers
Paladin is summoned by his old buddy Billy Banjo (Jacques Aubuchon) to actually protect his opponent in a state senate election. Billy wants the election to be fair and doesn't trust his ambitious wife (Rita Lynn), who runs the town along with the sheriff and a group of cattlemen against the miners. So its up to Paladin to keep the peace and make sure the miners get a chance to vote.
Aubuchon seems a bit miscast as a buddy of Paladin. Don't see how that friendship happened. Aubuchon also seems a bit restrained as the happy go lucky entertainer and charismatic showman. He looks almost as uncomfortable as he did on the Monkees episode when he played a Russian secret agent who ended up as part of a rock duo, "Honey and the Bear".
Look for film director Hal Needham in a bit part as a cattleman.
