Lying by Omission
kgraovac23 December 2023
David's buddies assume he has scored with Candice, the new girl in class. When David doesn't set the record straight, rumors fly and her reputation is ruined.

This is an excellent episode that is elevated by the performance of Lisa Wilcox as the wronged Candice. It's a revelation since just after this she played a friend of Dot's on IT'S A LIVING and left me unimpressed (I saw that episode before this one).

The humor here comes from Parker Jacobs, who plays Candice's angry brother who shows up to beat up David and defend her honor. This is made hilarious by the fact that David is expecting a tough brute to show up but the brother is at least five years younger than David, yet totally game for a fight.

The climactic scene where Candice explains the seriousness of what David's lie has done is excellent - especially for a Miller-Boyet Production. Ms. Wilcox and Jason Bateman really bring a lot of gravitas to the scene. The same can be said after Sandy calls David out on his behavior and he acts all indignant, as though he's not in the wrong. There isn't really a complete resolution at the end, which makes this more realistic.

One of the best-played episodes since Season 1 and a Season best. 9/10.
