JOHNNY RINGO "Soft Cargo" 1960
JOHNNY RINGO was a western series that ran for 38 episodes during 1959-60. The series starred Don Durant as the title character with Karen Sharpe, Mark Goddard and Terence De Marney as series regulars. The series follows Durant, (Ringo) a former gunfighter who decides to go straight. He becomes the Sheriff in the small town of Velardi in the Arizona Territory. The series was one of several (Rifleman, Wanted Dead or Alive, Shotgun Slade etc) with a "gimmick gun". Durant carries a special LeMat revolver equipped with a shotgun barrel under the six gun barrel.

A woman is found in rough shape just outside of the town. The woman, Sally Todd, says that she is part of a troupe of dancing girls that were coming to Velardi to perform. The 5 girls had been grabbed up by a pair of unsavory types, Steve Marlo and Michael Fox. The pair had killed the troupe's manager and were holding the others to sell to a band of Comancheros. Todd had managed to escape.
Sheriff Durant and his man, Mark Goddard, are soon on the road to see what they can do. After a bit of gun play, and a sound beating to the one man, the Lawmen find out when and where the Comancheros will be arriving. The Comancheros have been raiding local ranches and have murdered several families. Durant figures they might be able to ambush the swine by using the girls as bait.
The women all agree to help as it was Durant and Goddard who had saved them from being sold. The Comancheros show and are shot up by Durant, Goddard and the rifle armed women. They kill all but two of the bandits in the furious exchange of lead. The girls, and the Lawmen then head for town.
This is an interesting episode with a 23 year old Dyan Cannon's ample charms on display throughout.
The episode was directed by Dick Moder who was the grandfather of Julia Roberts' husband, cinematographer, Daniel Moder.
