James Shigeta as a Shaolin master
kevinolzak22 August 2010
Season 3 Episode 11- The great James Shigeta makes his first of two appearances, as Shaolin Master Kwan Li, whose family was marked for death by China's Imperial Emperor, fleeing to America with his young nephew just as Caine later did. After his nephew is killed running from a locomotive, Kwan Li declares war against the railroad, destroying track with explosives. Damion (James Olson) is an investigator on behalf of the railroad, who believes that Caine possesses knowledge of the culprit, but will not say who it is. Caine works with others on the rails, and cannot understand how his former master could disregard his Shaolin training and willingly cause destruction that costs lives. Even after Caine rescues Damion from the wrath of Kwan Li, Damion believes he can force his hand by placing him under arrest. James Hong plays a sympathetic railway worker fatally injured by an explosion, while James Shigeta would return in "The Forbidden Kingdom," set entirely in China, as a Lieutenant for the Emperor. In this entry, it is Kwan Li giving Caine the authentic Shaolin robes that the monk would wear for the remainder of the series. Next up- "Besieged: Death on Cold Mountain"
