THE LIFE AND LEGEND OF Wyatt Earp – The Killer - 1956

This is episode 8 of the 1955-1961 western series that starred Hugh O'Brian as Wyatt Earp.

Wyatt Earp, (Hugh O'Brian) the town Sheriff in Wichita Kansas is getting the gambling hall owners upset. The main target of O'Brian is gambler House Peters Jr and his faro dealers. O'Brian catches Peters in the act of cheating and gives him 6 hours to close his place, and exit town.

Peters swears revenge and heads off to hire a top gun-hand. He finds such a man in Mannen Clemens. Clemens, played by Lane Bradford, has twenty plus kills to his name. Peters offers Bradford a large cash payment if he will eliminate O'Brian for him.

Bradford agrees, but is cautious, and refuses to just ride into Wichita and look for O'Brian. He sends in his girl, Claire Carlton to do some re con and report back. O'Brian hears through the grapevine about Peters hiring a big time gun. When Carleton comes a snooping, O'Brian acts like he never heard of Bradford. He then cunningly pumps Carleton on Bradford's habits etc.

Carleton returns to Bradford and Peters and tells them that she thinks O'Brian is a bumbling fool. Bradford now rounds up his gang, as well as Peters, and heads for a showdown with O'Brian.

O'Brian has sworn in a bunch of extra deputies and has them placed ready to ambush Bradford and his men. Needless to say things do not go the gunman's way and he quickly exits town with his men in tow. That is after shooting and killing House Peters Jr for leading him into a trap. Problem solved.

This is another quick and to the point episode of this long running (227 episode) series. The direction was by long time b-film helmsman, Frank McDonald.
