I Can't Go On Singing
dougdoepke13 January 2016
Solid episode. Actor Richard Crenna usually plays a good guy (The Real McCoys). Here, however, his ambitious vocalist, Donny, is an obnoxious character, full of himself and hyper-critical of others. So maybe it's a kind of poetic justice when Donny begins to suffer throat problems, soon diagnosed as possible throat cancer. One way or the other, an operation is required that will permanently derail his singing career. Since that's been his one ambition, how will such a difficult personality adjust.

In a fine supporting turn, veteran actor Stanley Adams plays Donny's piano accompanist and conscience. On the other hand, there's no love interest or family involvement. But the human interest is kept up even with a rather dislikable character as Donny. In passing— ironically, in real life Crenna almost lost his voice due to a thyroid cancer that was nevertheless successfully treated. IMDb.
