Why Did He Die
dougdoepke24 December 2015
A 3-month old infant dies in his crib, apparently from smothering on his stomach. Meanwhile, the parents are out for the evening, leaving the child in the care of the wife's unmarried sister. Heartbroken, the mother blames her sister for intentionally turning the child on his stomach. At the same time, the county coroner is called in to verify the circumstances of death. So what will he find.

At first, the mother's emotional blaming of her sister seems unwarranted, but then her suspicions are clarified. As the coroner, burly Paul Birch comes across as a genuine professional, and happily a long way from his more familiar Roger Corman villianry. Also, we get a peek at lab equipment used to analyze tissue samples. All in all, it's a typically solid series entry, highlighting the work of a county coroner.
