A Courtroom Instead of a Hospital
dougdoepke16 January 2016
I expect this 30-minutes of courtroom proceedings is a matter of taste. Frankly, I found it less interesting and dramatic than the series standard. Mrs. Parrish is an ordinary housewife who apparently was injured in an auto accident. At the site, she was given preliminary treatment by Dr. Styner who was passing by. Now suffering from crippling effects, her domineering husband insists on suing Styner, blaming him for the lasting effects.

The litigation unfolds in the courtroom with the competing lawyers getting most of the screen time. There's no real guessing game like Parry Mason to drive interest. Instead, it's mainly back-and-forth between the attorneys. Nonetheless, the refusal to hype courtroom dramatics can be taken as refusing to compromise series integrity. The brief resolution, however, comes across as really contrived. But if you think about what almost happened, it's pretty thought provoking. At the same time, this may have been the only way to create the irony inside a half-hour time limit. All in all, it's a mixed results episode.
