The weakest episode so far
TheLittleSongbird16 August 2016
Re-watching 'The New Scooby Doo Movies' episodes in order of release/airing, a couple like "The Dynamic Scooby Doo Affair" and especially "Wednesday is Missing" have been great, others are reasonably entertaining but deeply flawed like "The Ghastly Ghost Town".

"Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hyde" is the weakest one so far. Liked this episode as a kid, but re-watching it the flaws are more apparent. There are definitely things that help make it watchable. Have always loved Shaggy and Scooby's scene stealing antics and their friendship, both of which have been such a large part of the franchise's appeal, and "Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hyde" is not exempt from that.

Of the two, Scooby makes a little more impression with some very funny moments. Some dialogue is amusing and endearingly goofy, and the Hollywood locations and sets are fun to recognise and very interesting and imaginatively done. The music is full of energy and atmosphere, with a catchy theme song, while the voice acting is fine all round.

However, the animation has never been one 'The New Scooby Doo Movies' strengths, and it is not great here, some nice colours but the drawings are less than smooth and a lot of it is sloppy. The story agreed is weak, too thin for the running time, with a lot of draggy padding, and lacks atmosphere and tight pacing. The chameleon-esque villain has far too many disguises that it's hard to keep up and they do vary in how memorable they are, Mr Hyde is the most memorable but too many of them are forgettable. It is also agreed that Duncan herself is a bit dull and annoying, not one of the show's better guest stars.

All in all, not awful, in fact pretty watchable, but it is the weakest one so far and even after watching the whole show it is likely to be a lesser episode. 6/10 Bethany Cox

Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hyde

The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972)

"Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hyde"

Scooby, Shaggy and the rest of the gang visits Sandy Duncan on the set of her version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and soon various monsters are trying to scare them away. Daphne gets a job as Duncan's double but when Mr. Hyde kidnaps her the gang must go to the rescue. Sadly this here is yet another weak episode in this two-season series that has never really been one of my favorites. I think the weakest episodes here are much worse than the weakest ones from the previous series but there are all sorts of problems here. One problem is that the story is just so weak and never really adds up to much. The gang gets into one situation after another but I must admit that they all pretty much bored me, which was strange since there are so many villains here. You've got a phantom, a mummy, a dragon, a gorilla and several other monsters that pop out of many places but none of them are all that memorable. I'd even add that the Sandy Duncan character is just downright annoying at times and a complete bore all the time. Scooby is given a couple good moments and especially early on when he gets a crush on Duncan but these scenes can't save the entire episode.

One of the Worst Scooby Movies?
richard.fuller126 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps unfairly voted as such, Sandy Duncan's cartoon and Jerry Reed's cartoon are voted the two worst Scooby movies.

Maybe because the celebrity stays out of so much of the adventure with the gang. That may be what works against them.

Maybe Sandy should have been doing something more with the kids.

This is the adventure where in the opening credits we see the Mystery Machine van being chased by a giant gorilla, tho I believe my copy I recorded off of Cartoon Network deleted that scene.

However, Sandy Duncan, her career long behind her, would appear on the Cartoon Network 13th Anvil awards to make a special presentation to Scooby Doo.

She hosted the brief segment, with commentary from Diller, Jonathan Winters, Don Knotts, Tim Conway and Davy Jones.

Scooby wuved Sandy, so we can't fault her adventure too much.

This IMDb listing isn't complete. There is no listing for either of the 3 Stooges adventures, nor is the Laurel & Hardy adventure listed.
