Awards Show' is that good old-fashioned underdog story, with WNYX staring down fearsome odds at the ABSAs. Spoiler alert, they win big. But up until that point, it's Mr. James trying to rally the troops with his Richard Nixon stories and iffy morality tales. I'm easy to please; if you give Stephen Root ample material, the episode's already a success. But Joe's alpha male jealousy over Catherine's dress is also funny (especially her frustration), and Bob Costas shows up as . . . Bob Costas, I guess, offering his commentator image up for laughs.
And I do love Bill's "Your last name's Garelli?" to Joe. It's such a throwaway line, and it's not the only time he'll say it. But it just seems to fit.
7/10
