Guilty by association....
planktonrules4 September 2016
When the show begins, a young couple are driving down the road. A car is heading towards them and there's obviously something wrong with this driver. Soon there's an accident and the girl is killed. Suddenly there's a HUGE cry from the community to charge the young man with manslaughter. After all, he was driving a hot rod! But when public defender Bart Matthews (Reed Hadley) investigates he finds the young man very nice and level-headed. Further, he was a member of a hot rod club that was sponsored by the police...and safety is paramount with these folks. The problem is when Matthews talks to folks, they seem to have made up their minds--the young guy MUST have caused the accident because he's a hot rodder! Can Matthews come up with a much more plausible reason for the accident? And, can he locate a missing witness that might hold the key to cracking this case?

This is a nice episode, though seeing the perennially square Reed Hadley trying to hang with the cool folks is pretty funny! Worth seeing and like other episodes of the series, it's available for free download from archive.org--a site often linked to IMDb pages.

An outstanding episode that showcases classic 1950's Hot Rod automobiles.

The footage of the Hot Rod cars in this show is worth watching. My late father built hot rod cars in the early 1950's, he had photos and stories to tell. So this episode hit home with me.

The witnesses, and the general public, are prejudiced against "Hot Rodders". They have already determined that the young man charged with manslaughter is guilty, simply because of his car.

We get a brief history of Hot Rods, and their contributions to the automotive engineers in Detroit. Bart Matthews takes a great interest, attending the meetings of the Hot Rod Club, and their race at a local drag strip.

I rate "Hot Rod" 10 stars!
