A Lampoon of "The Pearl"
jawlaw9 December 2020
In Steinbeck's "The Pearl" a tale is spun of a poor man who finds a pearl of great worth and all the "bad rich folk" seek to cheat him out of it. Despite Steinbeck's lofty status as a great writer, that was truly an overrated story. This screenwriter comes along with a similar story, only EVERYONE is greedy, rich and poor alike. On wonders if the writer was not lampooning "The Pearl."

Richard Boone and Robert Blake turn in A-list performances in what is one of the most entertaining hours of anthology TV ever.

Sweet drama
searchanddestroy-17 January 2016
A gentle, sweet, smooth drama, handled by good performances, with the likes of Richard Boone and Robert Blake. It is nearly a funny and gentle tale, at the boundaries of true drama. It is not my favourite so far in this too short series, which I have almost finished watching the whole. One more time, I am astonished to see how much Richard Boone was a great actor, how much he was able to perform any kind of characters. Any kind...The movies I saw with him all over the years did not bring me this feeling, because he was nearly always a heavy, a bad guy in all those westerns or action movies. Here, in this show hosted by him, well, that's a genuine tribute to his talent. Back to this episode, the summary has always been told above, so I won't repeat it like a Parrot, but I think it's a fair and accurate portrait of the true human behaviour. I would have perfectly imagined this kind of story played by Fernandel for instance, taking place in a small village of the South of France. One more time, a good character study.
