Ms. Paula Hart, you have a really beautiful daughter... her name is Emily

{note: this might just be one of the most astute things Crazy Old Me has ever written as a review here on IMDb. But there isn't a single SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH serious fan out there who wouldn't be affected by what I'm about to say. The challenge would be to add your opinion. What do you think? Vote for me or against me.}

Finally, everything I've garbled about (and irritated the regular fans here with) is beautifully illustrated in this episode (which holds the distinction of being a failed pilot episode for a spin-off) (but never mind that).

In this episode, supergirl is b-a-a-c-k! with the younger Hart sister once again appearing as Amanda, Sabrina's lively tornado of a niece. Now back in the old days, while I DID like the first episodes, I really began getting fed up with frowny Melissa Joan Hart who played Sabrina as... well, a spoiled brat very typical of the worst to be expected of the Me Generation. She wants it done HER way NOW and zaps those who get in the way. The bad girl that time, I think her name was Libby or something like that, she wasn't much worse than Sabrina. Well, of course few of the fans would agree, but if you analyzed Sabrina, she often came across as very impudent and selfish.

I became one audience member NOT bowled over by her performance. Said flat out, Sabrina wasn't always likable. I'm especially talking about the previous two seasons.

So, niece Amanda, played by MJH's younger sibling Emily, was a welcome little typhoon. I always cheered for the kid. Back then I wasn't so heavily involved with IMDb which is why I didn't write reviews for those seasons. So, today I got to relive the magical spark that is Emily Hart.

You know what? She is utter perfection. She is what this show sorely needed.

But I would have gone one better:

Emily Hart should have been Sabrina. From the start. Yeah, total kid. The "sixteenth birthday" theme could have been ten, eleven WHATEVER just the same.

She is everything that her older sister isn't. Vivacious, eager, clearly with a zest, and there is zing in every movement. Next to her, MJ fades, and looks exactly like somebody roped in to play in "Mommy's TV show" but "aw, Mom, don't wanna." while Emily, wow, Emily!!!

For crying out loud you can spot TEN MILES OFF this girl wants to be a star!

For crying out loud this girl deserves to be a star!

Emily Hart should have been Sabrina, with Melissa Joan cast as Aunt Hilda.

So there!
