Did Seaquest predict 2019 pandemic? WATCH SHOW FIRST, so you can come to same conclusion?
radarfirs719 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
All the prior reviews are before 2017. So they watched this episode before cv19. Seaquest goes thru something like the movie Final Countdown when an Aircraft carrier goes back in time. Seaquest follows a Distress call and end up in 2245. At first they find no people, and a computer in charge. They find out a Plague caused people to stay in doors, the computers ran the world, and the people even stopped living together, the computers had human hatcheries. They soon find 2 teenagers an Adam & Eve situation but the teens are only interested in playing with the computer games. The Computer had brought Seaquest due to needed someone before the Census? Census is the Plague. Lucas saves the day, but has to do something he doesn't. The Pandemic of this show was predicted 2219. CAPTAIN Bridger was born 1972, CDR Ford 1990. Don't let your Jaw drop too far watching it after 2019.

Absolutely atrocious

Warning: Spoilers
The SeaQuest comes across a disturbance in the deep sea and decide "Hey, let's enter that because that sounds like a great idea!", and ends up in the 25th century.

Yes, it's a time travel story, and something that did absolutely NOT belong in SeaQuest at all. Season 2 have so far been proved to be a really awful season and from what I've heard, this was due to the ratings not being all that the network wanted after season 1 so they ordered a new direction with more fantastical elements.

This episode, is probably the epitome of it.

They find out that in the far future, mankind have destroyed itself by apathy following a plague that killed the majority of mankind, making those who survived be weary of others and stay indoors, only communicating with each other through computers and a central computer that basically controls the world. Eventually this lead to humanity favoring virtual reality games and crushing their opponents in social interactions as opposed to socializing and getting married, until there are only two people left in the entire world which prompts the super computer to open a time vortex to get the SeaQuest into the future to save mankind from it's inevitable demise.

I will say that I am glad the AI wasn't malicious as it's so common they are in episodes like this, but that doesn't excuse the fact that this episode is a blatant middle finger to technological advancements, not to mention that the show so far have had episodes where they've had religious opinions, it makes it easy to draw the parallels of them trying to push a narrative of anti-technology, listen to God and all that stuff.

You can tell throughout the entire episode, that the actors really hated this episode. They give some of the worst performances ever on the show. At one time, they're getting fired at by a floating disc of sorts and their acting is just awful.

Disappointing season. Absolutely rancid episode.

It's a shame, especially since Season 1 was so good.

Good start, big let-down
CrackerJack304 August 2014
The first 15 minutes of this episode are OK, the time travel, the remains of human society, a supercomputer and mechwarrior-like robots fighting (although those were cheap CGI-effects, but still worth a watch).

After that, the storyline falls apart rapidly and plot holes appear very quick. Instead of a really human history we only see some videoclips from the past 'cause that's all Lucas can in the database. Instead, he starts to flirt with the machine, and boy, when he carefully caresses the wires of it with a wicked smile I almost feel ashamed for the poor actor...

Iris and Aaron, the last of mankind, spend their entire life alone and isolated, can't stand a human touch - but within a day they forget all that and fall in love (thanks to Piccolos picnic basket I suppose...).

The worst part of the story is the time travel. The SeaQuest can't travel BACK in time 'cause the PAST is gone and they are trapped in the FUTURE. Sorry, what? How the hell can there be a FUTURE without the existence of a PAST ?! That's freakin' impossible! Worst of all, they have to secure the future of mankind to save time and re-activate the timeline. Really? Has anyone of these authors seen any "Star Trek" episode? Or a movie, let's say, "Back to the Future"? Or owns a working watch?! You can change the FUTURE in the PAST (or in the PRESENT). Whatever you do in the FUTURE can't change the PAST! And more of all IT CAN'T STOP THE PAST FROM EXISTING!!! OTHERWISE THERE IS NO PRESENT; NO FUTURE; NO NOTHING !!!

My goodness. The final scene is just embarrassing. To bad. Good start, but the rest is just a mess.

Horrible Anti-Science
milton-5021 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Possibly the worst script in a show known for mediocre story lines, ludicrous both from the standpoint of physics and biology.

A. Time will not cease to exist when our species becomes extinct. The world got along just fine for billions of years before we came along, and it will go on long after we are gone.

B. Two people cannot reestablish a population. The only reproductive partners for their children would be siblings. I found this part of the story VERY OFFENSIVE.

It is really depressing that so much time and effort would be put into filming such perverse ignorance.

Cheesy melodrama
Leofwine_draca2 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
PLAYTIME is an episode centred around the concept of time travel, with crew members heading into the future to save the fate of mankind. Unfortunately it plays out as an extremely cheesy melodrama, so much so that I found it near unwatchable.
