In 1981 "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" caused Clayton Moore, the actor who played the character on TV, to come out and demand the role. I believe it was a PR move: Moore was far too old. The guy who got the part was named Klinton Spilsbury. Enough said.

"The Legend of the Lone Ranger" was a dreadful movie. By 1981 Hollywood no longer believed in the values the character stood for and had forgotten how to make westerns.

Taking off on that situation, S&S presents us with an old western actor in a similar situation, but who gets accused of murder.

This episode parades out several actors from old westerns and it's good they got a last hurrah at a time when the genre seemed moribund.

It's just too bad Hollywood no longer takes the Lone Ranger and his ilk seriously enough to make a decent movie about him.
