Undercooked series?

I havent watched all of stagecoach west. What I have seen so far suggests to me it is a undercoo ked series. The problems in the series are present in this episode. Beverly Garland plays a murderous bad girl. The set up is very good in this episode. The resolution is ruinous. There are many ways to end this episode. Why do they keep choosing the one that is completely lacking in dramatic potential?

The Storm

Luke Perry is taking a northern medical man Doc Apperson (J. Pat O'Malley) who is on a mission of mercy. He is from the north of England.

Before they set off, Perry has been told of a beautiful bank robber on the run.

As bad luck would have it, Luke Perry encounters Sherry Hilton (Beverly Garland) who has robbed a bank with her male partner. She steals Perry's horses and makes a run for it. When they arrive at a coach stop, the partner is shot as the man recognises the horses.

Meanwhile in a snow storm, Perry leaves the older Doc Apperson behind in a cave. When Perry arrives at the coach stop, he finds the owner has been killed. The elderly man in need of medical care and Sherry running the show. She needs the doctor to help her wounded partner.

Beverly Garland steals the show as the murderous and ruthless Sherry. The censorship laws of the time mean there are no grey areas. Sherry's partner is more of a follower than the leader but he is not going to have a happy ending.
