Very good set up for what looks like it should be a brilliant ending. It's been a ride, that's for sure. All things considered it was a fairly slow episode, certainly compared to the previous two. We did get answers to pretty much the show's supernatural being. We can assume that Bob and Mike are from the Black Lodge, and the Giant I would assume is from the White Lodge. There was a great deal of tension throughout the episode, because it was clear that the Miss Twin Peaks pageant was going to bring about some kind of action. What we got was a brilliant flashing sequence wherein the insane Windom Earle executes his endgame. The likelihood is, Cooper will lose Annie for good, and that will likely be devastating. Some things in this episode were a bit strange, such as the reveal that Ben is Donna's real father. Like ok cool but don't you think it's a bit late for that? It doesn't really mean anything at this point. I hope Major Briggs comes to as well because he almost seems like he's been possessed. I can't wait to see how this ends

One of the best episodes of the series....
Red_Identity31 August 2010
Seeing as how there is one more episode to go until the end of Twin peaks, there is much anticipation to what will happen in the series. The 2nd to last episode is really great, the suspense and mystery evolving until the final scene of the episode is nerve-wracking, and there is nothing better to hope for than how this episode ended. I can only think of what will happen in the final episode, but this episode was brilliantly written and executed. I think the right person of the Miss Twin Peaks contest won. When the final episode rolls around, I will be very sad to see Twin Peaks end, but of course, it's legacy will always continue.

It's All Coming to an Incredible Conclusion
Hitchcoc21 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
We just knew who was going to win this contest. Annie is now Coop's new love. Of course, how would one know who would get the votes and make her the prime target to be killed by Windom Earle. Of course, Cooper has a very sincere connection to all those women, so any of them would be a tragic loss. Not much of a security job though. He is known as a master of disguise. Yet they were really slipshod. When one considers how astute they are in every other respect, it is disappointing. Of course, one has to advance the plot. The talent contest was quite a bit of fun before everything turned dark. Lucy turned out to be quite the dancer. Andy, because he is marginalized, has critical information and no one listens to him. He has studied the petroglyphs for days and knows something. I can't wait to see the final episode. Of course, it will all converge in that spot in the woods, and it will be a set-up for the new series, twenty-five years later.

The most disturbing episode since Lonely Souls

Warning: Spoilers
There are two kind of races in this episode. The race to being crowned the new Miss Twin Peaks and the race against time when it comes to stopping Windom Earle from finalizing his plan.

The show in general has a very intense atmosphere most of the time, but here more-so than ever. Kenneth Welsh continues to play Windom Earle with demented brilliance, depicting a character who loves playing twisted mind games with his opponents so much he barely resembles human. Leo, who was the villain in earlier episodes of the series, makes the noblest sacrifice he's ever done. There's no doubt that he's been a real bástard, but he's learned his lesson at this point. Unsurprisingly, Windom really makes him pay for standing up against him.

At the station Cooper and Harry try to figure out Earle's next move, while Andy observes the cave painting on the blackboard instead. It's both amusing and stressful at the same time how Andy seems to have found an important clue, but no one stops to listen to him. I guess they're used to his other nonsense so much that they don't consider how he might have something more important to say this time. When he does get his say at the end it's practically almost too late. In true Twin Peaks fashion there's some lighthearted humor as well, such as when Ed announces to Nadine he's getting married to Norma right after she herself talked in rosy terms about her feelings for Mike. Even though Ed had already confessed several episodes ago he has feelings for Norma, it took this long for her to finally react to it in some way other than a shrug. Which of course only makes it funnier when he clenches Mike's fist while wishing Ed luck on new marriage with clenched teeth. There's also a darkly comic moment where it looks like Andrew suddenly is going to shoot Pete, but he actually was aiming for the silver box.

The highlight is of course the very climax. After a series of catwalks, dances and speeches, the winner is about to be announced. My bet was actually on Shelly at first since Leo was so worried about her safety, but after that speech delivered by Annie, I knew she was doomed. The flickering lights with Earle smiling evilly dressed in a Log Lady costume is one of the scariest things I've seen on the show. The intensity and drama during this scene is impeccable.

The one thing I wish they would have done differently is give Catherine more of a poignant send-off. Her final scene is funny, but a little bit anticlimactic.

The brooding, dark tone combined with the sweatdrop-inducing suspense makes this one of the most wellmade episodes in the series.

Approaching the end
Tweekums14 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
With just one more episode to go it is approaching the time when Windom Earle will take his queen and open the Black Lodge. He is aided by the fact that he can hear all of Cooper's discussions on the matter in the Sheriff's office; that is until Andy knocks over the bugged bonsai exposing the bug... by this time Earle has all the information he needs and Cooper still has no idea what exactly the petroglyph means; surprisingly Andy does but everybody is too busy to listen to him. Back in the woods Leo manages to release Major Briggs, much to Earle's annoyance and ends up suffering for his offence. Eventually Cooper realises that the queen Earle is after is the winner of the Miss Twin Peaks competition; security is tight at the event but Earle still manages to strike leaving a room full of panicking people while taking his queen... Cooper has only one episode left to save her and prevent Earle from opening the Black Lodge.

As the end approaches things are getting even more exciting; if Cooper fails he will face a personal loss as well as a professional defeat. Kenneth Welsh continues to impress as the insane genius Windom Earle just as Heather Graham continues to delight as the lovely Annie. The episode has some good drama early on as the Major escapes and Cooper and the Sheriff's department struggle to solve the puzzle; it was a nice touch to have Andy figure it out but be ignored till it might be too late. The conclusion at the pageant was one of the series' high points; when the name of the winner was announced and the strobe light started to flash tension increased dramatically as Cooper was helpless to protect the newly crowned 'queen' of Twin Peaks... with only one episode left things aren't looking good for Agent Cooper!

Who killed Annie Blackburne ?
leplatypus7 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I choose this specific episode to review Season 2 of Twin Peaks, because it illustrates brilliantly the talented graphic design of the show: If Twin Peaks can be interesting in its story, the package is also a great bonus: In this regard, Season 2 offers a lot of superb sequences: this stroboscopic panic of this episode 21, the red room maze of #22, the paranoiac ceiling of Leland interrogation, the flash-light dance, etc....

So, Season 2 isn't as awful as it is said: it is true that the shows seems tired after the death of the killer with too much soaps sequences (Mrs. Marsh, Josie, Norma,...). But, the directors give more than for a usual TV show and the coming of Annie brings a new wind for the last episodes!

Warning: Spoilers
Donna confront Ben and reveal that he is the father of her. Cooper know that he wants to open the black lodge like Earle and he knows also that Windom will attack the winner of the Miss Twin Peaks. Briggs come back and bring some important informations for the black lodge and how to open it. Annie win the contest of miss twin peaks but she will get kidnapped by Earle.

A nice episode where the competion of Miss Twin Peaks let us breath a little just for a few moment. What sometimes i dont like with this show its the way how they find answers: its pretty illogical sometimes and that can be annoying because its just feell an excuse to make the story go forward. Nice episode anyway.
