- TriviaIn the original airing, the song that Mr. and Mrs. Carlson dance to near the end is from the Gigi (1958) soundtrack. However, from the '80s syndication package onward, the song has been replaced by "We've Only Just Begun" by The Carpenters, and the dialogue has been re-dubbed. Venus can still be seen holding the Gigi jacket.
- GoofsAt ~4m15s As Arthur and Carmen are talking in his office, just as Les knocks on the door. Arthur steps back, revealing the boom mic shadow in the upper-left square on his door. A few seconds later, the shadow moves up as the boom mic is retracted.
- Quotes
Les Nessman: [to Mr. Carlson] When I think of all the little babies up in heaven waiting to be born, looking for the right kind of parents, and I think about what fine people you and Mrs. Carlson are, I think how lucky some little baby's going to be.
- Alternate versionsThe "soft and sweet" song played at the end of the show was originally "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" from Gigi (1958). Note that Venus is holding the cover of the Gigi soundtrack album in the DJ booth. However, in all versions from the 80's syndication on (including the DVD), that song is replaced by "We've Only Just Begun" by The Carpenters and the dialogue is dubbed over. Why this change was made is anybody's guess. It can't be a money issue since The Carpenters would presumably be more expensive to license than a song from than Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe.

terminally lost in their own worlds
Yeah, this outing takes a whole lot too long to get to the characters we know and love. The stage is set by the announcement by Mrs. Carlson that she is pregnant, and it's a bit tedious... but then it becomes absolutely hilarious, what with born loser Herb building his ivory tower on office time, shy Bailey heading for home but trying to be evrn nicer than she already is, Les and his holy Silver Sow award who wants to lock up his imaginary office, the funny misunderstanding between Carlson and Venus Flytrap re "wanting to have a girl" and the jewel at the end, Venus almost rocking to music not hos style and shaking his head to shirk that off.
These people have built walls around themselves, Les being literally even if really figuratively the prime example. Herb is the all-time loser feeling sorry for himself. He needs a hug, desperately, but he ain't never gonna get it. Of course, Jennifer's the strong one, she lives in a castle, you can see that. Bailey (who is totally miscast, played by stunningly beautiful Jan Smithers (my favorite!)) is too shy for her own good. Carlson, the ineffectual Mommy's boy puppet. Venus and Johnny symbolized by their choice in music, too cool to be part of this world. Only Andy is a regular person.
Psychiatrists can have a field day with this lot.
How many young people know about this Golden Oldie?
P.S. I saw the Karen Carpenter "and, yes, we've just begun... white lace and promises..." and never mind that it's not the original... signing off more than a bit teary-eyed...
