"Barbarino in Love" concludes with Vinnie and Cassy (Amy Johnston) seeing more of each other, while Three Do's try to keep the act going for the statewide competition without the Don't. Barbarino drowns his sorrows at the soda shop of Lou Grapette (Martin Garner's last appearance), where Kotter convinces him to rejoin the act, only to learn that they've been disqualified. A two hour conference with the judges puts them back on track to compete against Cassy's ballet moves, but she does admit that she's had a good time with Vinnie, still doing the falsetto. The winner was the guy who did bird calls, earning sympathy from the judges by falling off his perch! Amy Johnston, in her television debut, never returned to the series.
