"Chicken a la Kotter" opens with Gabe returning from the dentist with three abscessed teeth, but without the money to pay for it. Unable to obtain a loan on a teacher's salary, he looks through the want ads for a part time job, one in a car wash ("must enjoy standing in water") or as a hearse driver ("should not mind riding alone, sort of"). Employed in a fast food restaurant isn't the kind of job he had in mind, especially when Mr. Woodman and the Sweathogs see him in costume, dressed as a yellow feathered mascot for Northern Fried Chicken, called Captain Chicken! The ranks fly with the feathers before the proprietor (Stephen Pearlman) earns the justified insult: "up your gizzard with a rubber lizard!"
