The ending makes this a worthy watch

Dick Powell play a Sergeant Dravo that rounds up army deserters in the later 1800's. In this script he is tracking a young man, Johnny Harris, that has left his Fort and now has teamed up with a suspicious woman named Rose. The plan to get the deserter out of the west is to let him ride in a wagon and Rose will be his mate.

Along the ride in the wagon, it just so happens that the Sergeant hitches a ride and now the deserter is claiming to be someone else and that he is set to marry Rose. But the clever Sergeant knows that he has found his man. Along the wagon ride, we will find much about the characters that will make for an interesting trip.

Nothing really outstanding during most of the story but the thing that really stands out is the situation that Rose presents to the script. At the end of the episode the viewer gets a surprise that makes the entire production worth watching. Even if the story seems slow, wait for ending- you will be glad that you watched.

Femme Fatale

Sergeant Major Dick Powell has an assignment from the army to bring back deserters. He prefer to bring them in alive, but in the beginning of the story has to kill one of them. Now he's looking for another known to have deserted.

Storekeeper Joe DeSantis and Margaret Hayes each for their own reasons is enticing young recruits to desert. They've got young Tom Pittman in their sights now, Pittman is convinced he's in love with Hayes.

The surprise is Hayes and I won't reveal anything except that she and Powell have history. It's why he was so good at tracking Pittman. The ending is something of a surprise and something I was not expecting.

Young Tom Pittman died the following year in a car crash, he had a promising career ahead. He's worth checking out.

I've seen this episode four or five times and it strikes me as a time slot waster ... dick powell was no actor but he had a lot of people fooled for a long time ... he was actually a smart mouth and tossed his zingers frequently ... as you can probably tell, i was never a fan
