When it comes to parody I think it's better if a show or a movie concentrate on only one subject of a story or a popular fiction. Not to try to use many other movies or stories to put all together and give annoying fart jokes which would rather cause them to become pathetic and unfunny. Like those God-awful parody movies by those talent-less directors of the Scary Movie era.
But SimpsoncalifragilisticexpialaD'ohcious is simply a good example of parody from a classic movie. I didn't find the whole episode annoying. I just don't understand the other reviewer complaining about Shary Bobbins and the songs. In my opinion Shary Bobbins did give good jokes especially the self-referential joke when she yells: "I've been singing you songs all day. I'm not a bloody jukebox!"
As for the songs they're pretty good, some of them have good lyrics and good jokes at the same time. They might not be inspirational and though they're not 100% original they are still funny listening especially being parody but manage not to be too annoying to hear. I can tell you I've heard much worse musical than this and this musical episode is nothing to cringe on.
There are some pretty weird jokes too and I felt it became a bit surreal when some of the people in Springfield suddenly turned into British citizens for example Skinner and Jimbo wearing older century clothes? Well luckily it does not become stranger.
Overall this episode and it's story wasn't perfect but I think it's a nice one with good old jokes and the parody concept I prefer. Is it recommended? Indubitably yes!
