Ash and the gang arrives in Azalea Town only to find the area suffering from a drought and the townspeople very protective of their Slowpokes...
I like it when the episode includes a bit of local Pokemon culture to the episode. The local tale of Slowpoke bringing rain in times of drought is a neat addition to this episode. It's a good nod to the games and saves it from being an otherwise unremarkable episode. No new Pokemon are introduced here, but Kurt finally makes his in-person debut.
Now, I understand that Ash, Brock, and Misty need to be unaware of Team Rocket's schemes, for the most part. Even after all these encounters, they never seem to be mistrusting of duos with Meowths, or tipped off by their voices or haircuts when in disguise. I've come to accept all that. But the level of surprise that the characters exhibited when the Slowpoke costume guy was revealed to be Kurt is ridiculous. They know what Kurt looks and they found out where he'd be from his niece. Do they think there is more than one old man roaming around the Slowpoke Well?
Anyway...that's just one example of characters behaving idiotically this episode. Like, more than usual. I actually like this episode, but there's some eye roll-worthy overreactions to situations here that takes me out of it.
