Remarkable For It's Time

I am absolutely astounded no one has reviewed this title.

Let me preface by first saying that this review is for all 5 parts of the mini-series since I can't differentiate between what works well specifically for the episode mentioned.

Overall, it is astounding the intelligent it took to write this plot. NOT that it isn't clunky when it comes to logic or fantastical nonsense like furries in space. BUT seriously, the plot of world domination by blocking out electronic devices could be seen as a hero's journey in today's social media.

Here it's Cobra's terrorist organization that wants to rule the world by shutting down all the electronics. But first Cobra Commander has to link up four massive blocks around the world to create the shade that interrupts our power. Then he can regulate the power.

Sound familiar. This could be a lot of dictators today. And, is a think veiled nod at totalitarian governments that want the authority to regulate who gets what. Like communism. BUT, this did come out at a time when Reagan was still President of the United States, so I'm sure it was meant to criticize America's long reach of power.

Anyway, a very interesting storytelling situation where the stories are broken up with the four cubes that need to be placed. We are introduced to new Joe characters.

I am always surprised when I see how the cartoons seem to manipulate children. Hasbro was very clever in shoehorning new characters here. Honestly, it would've been cool to see a Satin action figure. The women in this show actually did a lot. They were just seen as sidelined (well, you could argue Scarlett got more and more ignored).

This was a great trip down memory lane. And was very surprised how topical it still was. Very impressive (and curiously progressive) for its time.
