Julie becomes pregnant
kevinolzak2 July 2016
"The Littlest Sweathog" sets up the third season by revealing that Julie is pregnant. Vinnie is being tutored by Gabe in the apartment, asked what he knows about D-Day: "D-Day is the day that I bring home my report card!" A call from the doctor brings expectant news, the ecstatic Gabe giving his wife the glad tidings: "I'm pregnant!" Julie's reaction is that of uncertainty, and the need to get a larger apartment. Horshack figures the little Kotter will eventually go to Buchanan High in sixteen years: "he could sit next to me!" Mr. Woodman's response to Gabe's impending fatherhood is a classic: "oh good grief Kotter, this time you've gone too far! Who is it, what's her name?" Gabe asks Woodman if he ever missed not having any children: "no Kotter, I've got 2000 kids right here who won't listen to me!" Epstein gifts Julie the bronzed baby bootie of his brother Sanchez, a huge single sneaker! (normal sized baby with big feet). Looking back, it's still somewhat shocking that this late in the series the pretty Marcia Strassman would brazenly continue to go noticeably braless, clearly evident to all viewers of the masculine kind. It's not likely that many actresses were allowed to do this in the 70s, so Marcia was in a sense 'blazing the trail,' so to speak!
