Diamond Ray of Disappearance: First He-Man´s Episode Ever Produced!!!! Warning: Spoilers
----He-Man and the Masters of the Universe--- Season 1, Episode 4.

-------DIAMOND RAY OF DISAPPEARANCE-------

++++First He-Man´s Episode Ever Produced.+++

Even when it was "The Cosmic Comet" the first He-Man episode that saw the light of the day, it was this one "Diamond Ray of Disappearance"the first in being produced. In it, we can already distinguish many elements that will be common along most of the series like Skeletor calling Beast Man with names, Adam passing either for a fool or a coward most of the time and King Randor and Queen Marlena always seeing merely want they wanted to see.

Our episode begins with Skeletor presenting us his main henchmen (let´s remember this very probably was going to be the first episode aired) Beast Man, Tri-Klops, Mer-Man, Evil-Lyn and Trap Jaw in the last four cases also presenting us their main powers and qualities while he calls them back to Snake Mountain that are Skeletor´s Headquarters.

Beast Man has the power of a powerful animal and I read his design was based on the Brutemen that appeared in Flash Gordon (1979), and he is the only one of his henchmen whose virtues weren´t mentioned by Skeletor.

Tri-Klops is the "Master of Vision" and he can even see around solid objects.

Mer-Man is the "King of the Sea" and for some reason is the favorite of Skeletor´s henchmen for most of the MOTU (Masters of the Universe) fan-base.

Evil-Lyn, a powerful malignant sorceress that is also the closest thing to a right hand that Skeletor has, even when there is an episode where Mer-Man is presented with this title when Skeletor speaks to a another villain.

Trap Jaw, who has a wide arsenal of weapons and a steel jaw that is his most important trademark.

I assume that the reason why the episode´s plot doesn´t take a time to present the heroes is because some of them are mentioned in the introduction of the series. Nonetheless, it would have been cool to have them presented to us as well.

Like in many series, we start with an episode that states that both heroes and villains have been fighting for the destiny of their planet for some time and are already arch-enemies.

The adventure of this episode is about Skeletor using a rare diamond whose ray can instantly teleport anyone who sees it to another dimension. Skeletor creates a distraction in order of making Teela, Captain of the Royal Guard and her soldiers to leave the Royal Palace and being able to disappear into another dimension its main inhabitants (with the exception of Adam): King Randor, Queen Marlena, Man-At-Arms and Sorceress (well, Sorceress really resides in Castle Grayskull). It is interesting that King Randor and Queen Marlena say that Teela is "the Greatest Warrior in Eternia" and don´t even mention He-Man.

Afterwards, He-man goes to Castle Grayskull in order to communicate with the Sorceress using one of those amazing magic mirrors that come in handy so many times and he is told to destroy the diamond for its effects to be reversed...and he will have a nice chance to try to take it from Skeletor and destroy it as Skeletor and his men try a frontal attack to conquer Grayskull!!!

A fine episode and one that gives us a pretty clear idea of what we can expect along the series.

Thanks for reading.

Short cuts can't compensate for hard work.

Warning: Spoilers
After Skeletor get his hands on the lost Diamond Ray of Disappearance, he calls upon his minions to his castle to plan an attack. After a diversion was used, so Skeletor could get into the palace. He uses the diamond on the royal family and friends, which sends them to another dimension so he can take over Greyskull Castle. But He-Man is still around to stop Skeletor and to bring back his friends.

"Diamond Ray of Disappearance" happens to be the 4th episode of Season 1, but was actually the first one to be aired. The formulaic story is really basic, but it does introduce the main players, but more the prominent villains with their special abilities and the evil looking lair Snake Mountain. The mystical nature and playful tone goes to cement the way this zippy cartoon series would evolve into. Skeletor might act bad to the bone, but his presence comes off more whiny and clumsy, which makes it all the amusing. Also I seem to catch onto He-Man constantly yelling proudly, all maybe that echoing just seemed to follow him around.
