George Jetson learns that you can find faithful new friends in the most unlikely of places. Not being a dog lover, this makes it an even harder lesson to learn. As we begin our story, Jane pays a visit to the beauty salon and comes out looking exactly the same as when she went in (don't they all?) Later that evening, Elroy comes home carrying a cute little six-foot puppy named Astro. He can talk and do all kinds of hammy tricks. Jane and the kids instantly fall in love, but wonder if George will approve. Naturally, Jane feels no qualms about calling him up at work to pester him about it. They get the answer they half-expected and are clearly disappointed. Not wanting to wind up in the doghouse for refusing a dog, George consults the company's brain computer to find a solution to this problem. It suggests he get an apartment-approved electronic dog, so that's just what George does. He flies to the pet shop and brings home Lectronimo, a nuclear electronic dog. The family is anything but impressed. What's more, Lectronimo is good at playing fetch and the first thing he fetches is Astro, hiding in the cupboards. George vehemently tries to throw him out, much to the family's, and even Astro's, protests. Judy suggests they pit the two dogs in a competition, and the winner gets to stay. Liking the idea because Astro didn't stand a chance, George agrees. Sure enough, Lectronimo outshines Astro at all kinds of fetching and silly dog tricks. Despite the fact that the ability to fetch and do tricks does not a good pet make, George tries once again to throw Astro out, but is begged to let him stay the night. George reluctantly agrees. That night, the notorious Cat Burglar prowls around the neighborhood. Now what's interesting is that he doesn't like cats, but worse yet, he doesn't like dogs. This is why he cased the Jetsons' joint because he heard old man Jetson hates dogs too. He sneaks into the apartment as Lectronimo quickly self-activates and gives chase. See, he's attracted to burglar masks, so if you wear a black mask, you are considered a burglar...watch out, Zorro. George catches the burglar in the act, who places the mask on him, so now George finds himself being chased out of his own apartment by his faithful robot companion. Jane, Judy and Elroy panic over the disturbance. Judy hopes she can try out her judo lessons...now I would have loved to see that! But it was not to be, for when Astro hears there's a burglar, he heroically flees for his life, running into the assailant and accidentally knocking him out. So, the crook is incarcerated, Lectronimo joins the police force, and the Jetsons have a dog. Astro was here to stay...don't worry, George, you'll get used to it.
