Several excellent things.

Warning: Spoilers
1. Exposing the resentments that can crop up in relationships. Rob and Laura out of character as eavesdroppers, then hostile and resentful people and finally ashamed and apologetic, restoring relations between the friends.

2. The physical comedy of Rob and Laura sitting down on the Halpers' sofa *and* crossing their legs in *perfect* unison!

3. Rob and Laura's resentful remarks about the things they've given the Halpers as a very drawn-out setup for Buddy's *brilliant* pay-off punch line, delivered with *perfect* timing: "You didn't give them the house?"

This episode has the best game of charades ever; and a great comment on suburban neighbors, and what friendship is all about---all while being funny. (and the black & white of this series is wonderful to look at.)

Boy, what a great looking ashtray!

This episode is one of the very best of the series. The timing is perfect and the lines are very funny. I loved it when Sally was trying to change the subject by talking about the ashtray.

Best Episode Ever

If you've never seen the Dick Van Dyke Show and want to see a sample of this wonderful series, this is the episode to watch. The Dick Van Dyke Show is one of the best comedy series of all time. The physical comedy of Dick Van Dyke, the one-liners by Morey Amsterdam, the sarcasm of Rose Marie, the blandness of Richard Deacon, the sweet innocence of Mary Tyler Moore, the nosiness of next-door neighbors Jerry Paris and Ann Morgan Guilbert all blended with perfect timing and great scripts to keep America laughing through some tough times for our country. Way to go, team!

I guess I'm the odd one out here.

"All About Eavesdropping" has an exceptionally high score of 8.7 on IMDB...meaning folks love this particular episode. Also, there are currently four reviews...three gave it a 10 and one a 9. So, I am really am the odd man out, because I didn't like it at all. I thought it showed Rob and Laura in a very ugly light.

Rob and Laura are preparing to go over to Millie and Jerry's for the evening. It promises to be a nice evening...that is, until Rob discovers Freddy and Ritchie had set up some sort of communication system between the two houses. Rob can hear Millie and Jerry talking...and instead of turning off the device, he keeps listening, as does Laura. The Helpers make a few not especially mean remarks about the Petries...and Rob and Laura REALLY overreact and are considering not going to the dinner party. But they go since Buddy and Sally will be there. However, once there they are OBVIOUSLY angry and over the course of the evening, it becomes increasingly obvious they are mad at the Helpers. But they never say why and they ruin the evening for everyone. What's next?

I just thought this particular show made the Petries look like angry jerks...and nosey angry jerks to boot. I didn't enjoy watching it and it made Rob and Laura look simply awful...something that didn't impress me at all. Watchable but not a particularly nice episode that for me, went too far.
