[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Americans” Season 5, Episode 1, “Amber Waves.”]
Immediate Reaction:
Hans will be missed, but what his fateful fall represents is far more harrowing for the future of “The Americans.” Not only was it a worrisome reminder that the Jennings’ secret life is unpredictably perilous, but Hans was a skilled trainee who never saw old age. Hell, he never really kicked the training wheels. Elizabeth and Philip had been doing their best to bring him along, and he’d proven helpful to their missions in the past. But now that Paige is in training, the Jennings have to imagine their daughter in his shoes: If she goes along with their plan, adopts a life of service, and someday finds herself looking up at her mother with a cut hand, would Elizabeth be so quick to pull the trigger?
I think not, and it seems like Elizabeth is starting to think similarly. Her comments in the episode don’t mesh with her actions,...

Two months out from release, 20th Century Fox is now beginning to enter crunch time in anticipation of Logan, James Mangold’s R-rated threequel that’s all but set to bring the curtain down on Hugh Jackman’s decorated career as the enraged Wolverine.
A new trailer is already in the can – January 16 is the purported due date for that one – and Jackman has taken it upon himself to drum up excitement ahead of schedule. Taking to Instagram, the likable Aussie actor premiered a new action shot for Logan with the caption “Fight or Flight,” this time showcasing the iconic mutant speeding through a woodland area. In this instance, it’s difficult to gauge whether Jackman’s clawed anti-hero is actually the hunter or the hunted, but given his razor-sharp reflexes and superhuman strength, we pity anyone...

In the teasers for “Chapter 5” of American Horror Story: Roanoke, Matt informed us that “there was no way out” of the pickle in which he and Shelby had been left at the end of “Chapter 4.” But, since we’re nowhere near the end of Season 6, presumably, Wednesday’s episode couldn’t reduce them to, as Mrs. Miller put it, “nothing more than prey” to The Butcher & Co. So how did the couple escape from the mob on their doorstep? Read on and find out.

Wondering how all the DC universe TV spin-offs, crossovers and webseries fit together? We have the answer...
In October 2012, Us network The CW launched the first season of Arrow, after wrapping up no fewer than ten seasons of Superman origin show Smallville a year before. Arrow was a completely new take on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, in a new universe that had nothing to do with Smallville or its version of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. The series proved quite the hit for The CW, and a second season renewal inevitably followed. In season two, we were introduced to forensic scientist Barry Allen, better known to DC Comics readers as The Flash. Arrow got a third season, The Flash got his own TV show with great success, and the live action shared DC Comics universe on TV was born. And with it the question: how does it all fit together?...

As if to prove to Shelby that she couldn’t run away from her problems, American Horror Story: Roanoke barely let her pull out of the driveway of her haunted house in the Season 6 premiere before it had her, quite literally, bump into old-timey pedestrian Kathy Bates and follow her into what appeared to be a mash-up of The Blair Witch Project and Salem. How would Mrs. Miller get on with — or, rather, get free of — the pitchforks-and-torches crowd in the second episode? Read on and find out…

At the moment, the only people who know that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Darryl prefers the company of women and men are Mr. Whitefeather himself and White Josh, the object of his affection. To kill or not to kill — that was the question on Friday’s Vampire Diaries as disturbing new details about Rayna’s magical immortality came to light.

Damon managed to whittle Rayna down to her last life — with all the comedic theatrics of a Bugs Bunny/Elmer Fudd cartoon,...

The latest Supergirl episode explores what Kara lost before coming to Earth, and is one of the show's strongest yet...
This review contains spoilers.
1.13 For The Girl Who Has Everything
The producers of Supergirl made a lot of the fact that Kara is an immigrant before the show premiered and, although this element hasn't been exactly ignored since then, it hasn't been a particular focus either. Kara's relationship with her family is complicated primarily because, while she certainly considers the Danvers as kin, she has a whole other family that she knew, loved and lost.
This isn't like Superman and the Kents, who raised him from a toddler to adulthood. Kara is always going to be split between two cultures, separated from both by the time she spent away.
So Krypton and its inhabitants are a trigger for our heroine that the show should be careful about pulling.

Supergirl is developing a villain as entertaining to watch as its heroes, as Bizarro proves...
This review contains spoilers.
1.12 Bizarro
Love is hard, especially when you're a superhero. You might want to date the cute new guy who happens to be your boss's long-lost son, and stay friends with the It guy who keeps moaning about how he's been 'friendzoned', but then there's also the hunky photographer who knows all of your secrets but is inconveniently dating your cousin's sister-in-law. It's complicated, and evil doppelgangers just throw yet another spanner in the works.
That's basically this episode in a nutshell, with a pretty serious storyline about Maxwell Lord basically abusing young girls until they become fractured, evil opposites of Kara aired alongside another game of musical chairs featuring Kara and her many admirers. Adam likes Kara, Winn likes Kara and James has finally admitted that he also likes Kara.

As with most Berlanti projects on the air right now, Supergirl has predominantly been about family in its first season. This review contains spoilers.
1.10 Childish Things
Though it started shakily, Supergirl has been doing a really good job lately of identifying its strongest elements and building on them, nailing the threat-of-the-week structure and putting character before action as much as it can. That trend continued in Childish Things, which may have been the best example yet of how much it's grown in just a few weeks.
It's a Winn-centric hour, which is something I've been clamouring for since we started. Jeremy Jordan is very good in everything, but Supergirl just hadn't made use of the actor or the character as it should have, preferring to focus our attention elsewhere while he acted just as convenient tech saviour and pining love rival to James. Now, however, he feels like a real character at last.

The first Supergirl episode of the year shows that it's willing to learn and grow without compromising on its original vision...
This review contains spoilers.
9.9 Blood Bonds
Secret identities are dumb. Well, they serve a purpose in-universe when there are legitimate threats against a hero's nearest and dearest but, as a narrative tool? They're dumb. Over the course of Blood Bonds, said identity was disappointingly shoved back in the bottle, and Cat Grant remains none the wiser about Supergirl's civilian name and face, thus rendering one of the best bits of the show's mid-season finale completely pointless.
It's not dissimilar from Arrow's decision to have Quentin arrest Oliver for his alleged vigilante ways surprisingly early in its first season, thus plausibly throwing off suspicion for the character most likely to go on a witch hunt later on. Here, at least, more or less everyone knows the truth,...

This review contains spoilers.
1.8 Hostile Takeover
Few things are perfect right out of the gate, and even fewer things have the amount of expectations Supergirl had on its shoulders from its first episode. This show hasn't offered the grim nuance of Jessica Jones or even the giddy joy of The Flash, but at least it's managed to do something different. We're in an age where it's almost impossible to watch every comic book-themed show on television, let alone everything on offer to geek audiences right now, and I feel like Supergirl can't be faulted for finding its own niche and sticking to it.

Human For A Day is by far the best episode of Supergirl yet, let's hope it starts a trend...
This review contains spoilers.
1.7 Human For A Day
There was a time when every superhero show had to do an episode where the titular character loses their powers – it's like the one where they're made to believe they've been in a mental hospital for years, or where they lose their memory and have to re-learn how to control their abilities. Because Supergirl exists very much in that 90s network-television mould, it makes sense that Human For A Day would be a thing that'd happen sooner or later.
What makes the episode a little bit different is that it's happened so early, and it's treated very much as a normal thing that could and probably will happen to Kara at any time. She pushed herself too far, and now...

This review contains spoilers.
1.6 Red-Faced
We're back in the correct timeline on Supergirl after a couple of weeks of muddled chronology, and thankfully this episode is more like some of the show's stronger efforts than last week's pretty underwhelming How Does She Do It? It's finally building up enough momentum for its thematic elements to evolve beyond the basic, kid-friendly messaging that's been present since the pilot, and that's more apparent than ever in Red-Faced.
The issue of the week that Kara must overcome is anger, and how she expresses that anger at work, in her personal life and out in the field as Supergirl. After scaring some kids while saving them from a dangerous driver and exploding at Cat after a particularly harsh slew of criticisms, Kara decides (or,...

After scaring some kids while saving them from a dangerous driver and exploding at Cat after a particularly harsh slew of criticisms, Kara decides (or,...

Supergirl's heart is in its right place, but the execution of its feminist message leaves much to be desired...
This review contains spoilers.
1.5 How Does She Do It?
Delayed from last week and aired in Thanksgiving week in the Us, How Does She Do It? seems designed not to be seen by many people. That's a shame, mainly because the fourth episode of any first season is usually a good indicator of whether a show will be good, bad or average. I was curious to see this instalment, then, if only to clarify a few things about Supergirl in general.
It starts off badly, with Kara declaring that she finally feels like she can 'have it all' - a genuine line of dialogue in a show about female empowerment. I feel like everytime Supergirl does something like this a kitten dies. It's this kind of clumsy...

It looks like CBS are casting a young Superman, to appear in flashback scenes in their Supergirl series…
Here’s an interesting one – the team behind Supergirl are purportedly looking to hire another Superman actor. As well as the adult Superman that we sometimes get a fleeting glimpse of, CBS is now said to be casting a younger version of DC’s iconic Man of Steel.
According to TV Line, they’re looking to cast ‘a 13-year-old actor with “future leading man looks” to play the potentially recurring role of Kal-El.’
Once a young actor with an impressive-enough jawline is found, TV Lines posits that he’ll appear in a string of flashback scenes to establish the relationship between Supergirl and her famous cousin.
According to their report, this young Clark Kent will debut in the 13th episode of Supergirl season 1.

Livewire is Supergirl's best episode since its pilot, and the first to indicate that the show knows what it's doing in the long-term...
This review contains spoilers.
1.4 Livewire
We missed some things in that fourth as-yet-unaired episode of Supergirl but it's clear from Livewire that it did a few things right. As it stands, this hour follows the low point of episode three, and is thus a marked improvement in the show's tone, content and general grasp of its own identity.
It's been hinted at before, but it's obvious now that Supergirl is interested in exploring the idea of mother figures, from Alex's relationship with Kara to their joint, strained connection with Eliza Danvers. There's also Cat Grant, who treats the young women around her as blank slates to write on, taking credit for their triumphs and their failures, and the looming threat of Astra Zor-El.

Supergirl's potential is huge, but the show isn't quite flying yet. Fingers crossed it will really take off once a few issues are fixed...
This review contains spoilers.
1.3 Fight Or Flight
I've been reluctant to criticise Supergirl these past few weeks, primarily because of the avalanche of petty digs and ill-informed opinions that will be coming its way until at least its first season is over. But the truth is that it's a bit of a mess. A charming, well-intentioned mess, but a mess nonetheless.
We begin the hour where we left off, with Kara's interview with Cat Grant not going entirely her way. The chat results in a semi-scathing article painting Kara as the worst kind of millennial wanting attention without really having anything to back it up, and revealing to the world that she is in fact Superman's cousin.

Since Supergirl has begun, characters have been referencing and comparing the heroine to her bigger and more popular cousin. In ?Fight or Flight? the references to Superman were at all-time high. At the same time Supergirl made an effort to separate herself from the Man of Steel and become her own hero and person. Here are 17 defining quotes from ?Fight or Flight.? For more on what happened, check out the recap.

Supergirl, Season 1, Episode 3, “Fight or Flight”
Written by Michael Grassi & Rachel Shukert
Directed by Dermott Downs
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
After two decent to solid episodes to open the series, the third hour of Supergirl falls almost completely flat in every area. It is only a matter of time with any new series before an episode loses the sheen of some of the early efforts, most often due to quicker script turnaround and filming schedules as the season ramps up, but with any luck, promising new shows will still maintain the general aura of what makes them great. In the case of “Fight or Flight”, not so much. Only Melissa Benoist’s consistent effervescence and the dual smiles of Jeremy Jordan and Mehcad Brooks come close to salvaging the episode. Most of the issues here originate from what seems to be the show backtracking on itself in...

In this episode of Supergirl, "Fight or Flight," Kara faces off against her Superman-sized inferiority complex, some complications in her love life, a less-than-flattering article by Cat Grant and, oh yeah, also a supervillain made of radiation. Strangely enough, the radioactive baddie is perhaps the easiest of those foes to conquer.
Superhero shows have a delicate tightrope to walk now that every comic book movie and TV show share a universe. Superman was always going to be the red-and-blue elephant in the room on this show, and the first three episodes have veered wildly in the show's approach to the caped Kryptonian.

Well, it looks like the Man Of Steel will appear to help out his cousin after all ! In a new Canadian promo for next week's episode of Supergirl, you can clearly see Superman swoop in and save Supergirl from Reactron. Whether or not we will see his face or how big a part he will play in the episode is currently unclear. We also have no idea who will be playing him, if he does play a larger role in the episode. Superman has previously made a quick cameo in the pilot for the show, and Clark Kent (along with Lois Lane) was mentioned in the show's 2nd episode. However, with the infamous DC embargo on Batman and Superman that has haunted The Flash and Arrow for so long, it is unlikely that we will see much of the Man Of Steel in Supergirl. "Fight or Flight" - Supergirl's powers...

Zack Snyder has been chatting about the influence of The Dark Knight Returns, and Ben Affleck’s role in Man Of Steel 2
There's already been some speculation as to how big an influence Frank Miller’s seminal The Dark Knight Returns is set to be on the upcoming Man Of Steel sequel, which we're still calling Batman Vs Superman, at least until a formal title is announced. The influence of Miller's work was hinted at by Zack Snyder previously, when he used a quote from the series to announce his plan for the follow-up to Man Of Steel.
Snyder's now said of the influence that Miller's work is having on the screenplay that he's putting together with David S Goyer and Chris Terrio that "the comic book will influence the history of Batman Vs Superman, on which the writer David S Goyer and...

Domain names can sometimes be surprisingly revealing. Most of the time, a domain name is just one of many options that a company is considering for a project title. They want to cover all of their bases, so they register a whole ton of options. A few months ago, we got wind of a list of domains that Warner Bros had purchased, with many of the entries seemingly like potential titles for their upcoming Man of Steel sequel.
Well, it looks like that list of options is continuing to evolve. A new title that has spring up now is Man of Steel: Fight or Flight.
Personally, I think it’s a silly name for a movie. Sounds more like the name for a Superman app-game for your phone. And, for all we know, that could be exactly what it is.
But what if it’s not?
Let’s play with this for a second,...

While Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming "Man of Steel" follow-up is commonly referred to as "Batman vs Superman," that isn't expected to be the final title.
Now, Comic Book Movie says that Warners has been registering a bunch of domain names lately through the Internet brand protection company MarkMonitor. The titles should give us an idea of the names under consideration. They include:

Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman/Batman film currently is untitled. Fans have been itching to know what this film will finally be called. Why the delay? Don't know. Perhaps, Warner Bros. wants to save that reveal for Comic-Con, or they just haven't come to a final decision on the matter. What we do know, is that Warner Bros. has been secretly registering potential titles over the past year through internet brand protection company MarkMonitor. In the past they registered: “Man of Steel Battle the Knight”, “Man of Steel Beyond Darkness”, “Man of Steel Black of Knight”, “Man of Steel Darkness Falls”, “Man of Steel Knight Falls”, “Man of Steel Shadow of the Night”, “Man of Steel The Blackest Hour” and “Man of Steel The Darkness Within." None of those went over all that well. And today, a new potential title has been uncovered: Man Of Steel: Fight Or Flight.
