Brilliant
snivellus-28 November 2006
This short film was a finalist in the 2006 Tropfest short film festival. Tropfest is an Australian festival which has been running since 1993, originating in Sydney. 2006 saw 700 entrants, and Glitch was chosen as one of the 16 finalists. Glitch is wonderfully unique and quirky. Its content is something many people are becoming all too familiar with, but tackled in a very new and enjoyable way.

The acting is very good, given the content, and the introduction of the character 'Norton' at the end will undoubtedly make many people giggle.

This film is directed, written and produced by Leon Ford, who had a starring role in John Doyle's 'Changi', which was awarded the Most Outstanding Mini Series/Telemovie Logie Award in 2002.

Amusing short despite the need for a stronger conclusion (spoiler)

Warning: Spoilers
A man calls in an expert to look at some issues that have been happening with his house – rooms leading to other rooms, bacon cooking in a drawer, noises from filing cabinets and so on. The expert starts to get a picture of what is up and asks if the man has had any post recently with another piece of post attached.

A clever little short film here with a concept that plays like it was thought up while sitting at a PC. The world of the computer virus is cleverly put into a domestic home with lots of funny things going wrong. Is it brilliant or hilarious? Well no it isn't but it is amusing and imaginative enough to hold the attention and entertain like a short film should. The delivery is nicely understated and doesn't push for flash where the ordinary will do the job with just a twist of subversion. The performances are nicely comic with the householder have that edge of bemusement leading to panic – just as we all get with computers. Didn't believe the expert's fear but I suppose it set up the punch line. This punch line was a bit weak but maybe I only think that because I have a strong dislike of Norton (played here by writer & director Ford) and prefer AVG.

Overall though this was an amusing little short comedy; not brilliant but does what it does well for the most part even if it needed a better ending.
