Landmark Episode For Ricky Nelson
ccthemovieman-19 March 2008
This was a historic episode in the history of this long-running sitcom: the debut of Ricky as a drummer and singer. He even dances, too!

Rick winds up sitting in with the "Tommy Jackson Band" at a big charity dance that Harriet and a bunch of people had set up. It's a long story how that happened but older brother David helped Ricky out in a nice way.

Although rock 'n roll had officially started, the music in here is a pre-rock big-band material, but Ricky makes the transition, playing the drums on a upbeat number and then singing Fats Domino's song, "I'm Walkin,' which he made into a hit number (and so did Fats). Later, Ricky will have you laughing as he jitterbugs with another girl at the dance. By the way, when they did mention a new style in music, they didn't it "rock 'n roll" in this episode, instead labeling it "rhythm and blues."

Ozzie also is good in here, pushing his kid a bit but not overdoing it. Oz knew what was talking about, being a former band-leader himself. Supposedly, he plays a band leader in this show but I can't recall one episode in which we ever seen Mr. Nelson go to work!

Since Ricky went on to be a mega-star in the music business, this is a episode to have in your collection if you are a fan of this great TV show. You can see it as part of "The Best Of The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet" DVD.
