The noble food
dbdumonteil11 March 2012
Two years before "Paris La Belle " ,his color short, Pierre Prévert made a first one in black and white dealing entirely with bread which ,13 year after the end of the war ,was sacred and had a prestige he has partially lost nowadays (lots of people eat frozen bread );a lovely sentence says "Paris is a song and bread is its chorus " From dawn to dawn ,Paris eats its bread, and as Ray Davis wrote about tea in England "bread knows no segregation ,no class or pedigree it knows no motivations ,no sect or organization, nor political belief:from the working class men ,who brings their billy-can, to the chic socialite who enjoys breakfast in bed, from the little children eating their Goûter (snack)to the businessman, who ,during a meal, tries to convince a client he will have it for "Une Bouchée De Pain" (=for next to nothing).

Dawn:the baker is in front of kneading trough ,his wife opens the shop and it's a brand new way:Paris is going to get its bread.
