This is the pilot episode reworked slightly with Peter Vaughan recast as Shirley's dad. He is now from Yorkshire rather than Wales.
Now commissioned for a series. The reworked episode is more snappier. Wolfie Smith is a bit more louder and Shirley looks more glamorous. She is definitely more chuffed about proclaiming herself engaged with Wolfie, when he hands her the fake crocodile necklace.
I thought the writer John Sullivan might have toned down Wolfie's selfishness but he really is a self centered communist revolutionary. Maybe a lot of them were!
Hilda Braid is still the highlight as Shirley's mum.
Peter Vaughn works much better as the dad. A better comic timing and a bit of menacing sneering.
