This is one of my honorable mention episodes, it's pretty much the pilot episode but it's one of those done right where it throws your right into the action but also introduces you to everyone and everything without dragging its own foot but most importantly being its own story.

The storyline is pretty much your escape at final crucial moment thriller but it's a good one as you really feel the suspense hoping the good guys are well prepared for the oncoming threat but also hope they'll all survival and get out on time; well of course they would otherwise there's no show, but the suspense is wondering how.

We see a little of the origin of the Monster Minds which has a bit of a Lovecraftian horror feel, as we see it was caused by some alien energy in the form of sunlight which have mutated the plants that Jayce's father Audric experimented with. It wasn't really Audric's fault, he was just one of those unfortunate victims of circumstance, just the wrong place at the wrong time.

Of course, he runs away and has on half of a magic root which is the McGuffin of the entire show, what this root can do and how it will destroy the monster minds is anyone's guess. Let alone if Audric made both roots why didn't he assemble them right then and there. That's not really explained which is one plot hole of the story, the only explanation I have to this are he probably discovered it latter during the Monster Mind occupation but when they were on his trail he didn't have time. And of course, if that happened like I said there would be no show, so I just roll with it.

The story in a way it isn't just the beginning of Jayce's long journey but also his journey coming of age. As we see a moment when Gideon guides Jayce to a magic ring which is a ring of royalty to symbolize Jayce leadership role of the Lighting League but his kingdom. I really like that moment because it's somewhat relatable as at some point in our lives all of us had to take certain responsibilities which marked taking charge of our lives.

Liked that we got a little intro and feel to all the characters, and each had a hand in things. The action is good it's pretty much your typical trial run, but it was still cool seeing all of the vehicles in action, along with the use of Jayce's ring which I know by it's nature is a deus ex machina but then again those magical relics work every time.

A good start to a long journey ahead.
