"In Search Of..." camera crews once again capture a real ritual, this time from primitive fire walkers who literally walk on hot coals, in order to test their faith and endurance, and how it can be possible for their soles not to be burned. It seems they are able to do it by entering an altered state of mind, mixed with hypnosis, which is demonstrated for the viewer. Exactly why this incredible feet is performed remains a mystery to an extent, but viewer may find watching it being done a trying experience in itself, though as usual this remains an interesting and reasonably entertaining episode, if not one of the best remembered.

In Search of... "Firewalkers" (1978)

The subject of this episode are people who are able to walk on fire without being injured. Throughout the running time we hear a variety of theories on why certain people can do this. Some believe that it's a mental thing where people are able to forget or disconnect from the actual pain. Others believe that it's a more religious thing and that there are Gods who protect the feet. I must admit that I really wasn't expecting too much out of this episode but it turned out to be pretty good and certainly entertaining. We get to see some actual firewalkers but the most interesting aspect of the episode are the actual interviews that discuss the history of the thing and why some people might do it. This certainly isn't the greatest episode of the series but it's entertaining.
