A return to form here, as this episode takes on the subject of witches, in this case, a friendly female coven located in Salem, Massachusetts, where famous witch trials were held centuries earlier. The coven is led by Laurie Cabot, who performs helpful spells(being a good witch of course...) and has been accepted by the community, who are at times amused by the eccentricity of their ceremonies, but it takes courage to be so different in public. Laurie has her own shop, and appears regularly on a local radio show. Most interesting comments by a historian about how tainted bread made the colonials see evil witchcraft when there was none was picked up later most cleverly in TV special "Curse Of The Blair Witch"(1999).

In Search Of... "Salem Witches" (1980)

This episode briefly covers the Salem Witch Trials but the majority of the running time is devoted to a group of women in current Salem who practice witchcraft. They explain why witchcraft is a good thing and what the benefits of practicing it are. I must say that this here is two poor episodes in a row. This one here isn't nearly as bad as the previous one but at the same time you can't help but feel disappointed. The biggest problem here is that the subjects are just boring and not very interesting. I really didn't care about their practices and I thought focusing on the witch trials would have been much better. There is a subplot here dealing with the original trials and if it was possible the women were on some sort of early version of LSD.

Episode: C+
