Space Academy--The Survivors of Zalon
Scarecrow-8813 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A planet is on the verge of imploding and Adrian (Maggie Cooper) notices that a life from reading seems to be emitting from its surface. While Commander Gampu (Jonathan Harris) is skeptical of life existing on the planet considering the world has been reported desolate for years, he is willing to allow Adrian to follow up on the readings. Gampu will operate the Seeker with Peepo on board, orbiting around the world, while young officers, Chris (Ric Carrott), Chris' sister, Laura (Pamelyn Ferdin), Tee Gar (Brian Tochi), and, of course, Adrian, all go to the planet in an effort to find the lifeform so that he or she (or it) can be safely removed before it destroys itself. What the group locates is a little boy alien named Loki (Eric Greene), with this unusual flute, and the ability to vanish and re-appear wherever he chooses. Loki has been tasked with protecting two crystalline lifeforms that look like eggs by a star-like entity from space that communicates to him. Interfering with the Seeker's communication system is the space entity as Gampu will try to get in touch with Paul (Ty Henderson) at Space Academy base and find out what is going on with his ship. This episode will already add a new member to the SA crew in Loki, while Chris and Adrian's potential puppy love is elaborated a little bit. The kids can also "mind link", using it to power out of a forcefield caused by the star-like entity in order to protect Loki and the two crystalline lifeforms. When the world implodes, the energy deriving from that will give new form the two crystalline lifeforms, but not before Gampu is successful in convincing the star-like entity that he must get his cadets off the planet, along with Loki, earning the being's trust in the process. This episode allows us to see the Space Academy, the Seeker, and the often-redressed planet sets used throughout the short-lived Saturday morning series. While Gampu is authoritarian as commander, he still listens to his young officers, taking their opinion not lightly, is principled enough to know when others just might be right and him wrong. But he's respected by the cadets and is more than just a commanding officer to them.
