The "late" Lex Luger
clayface929 May 2020
The first match is Randy Savage versus Hugh Morris. Dean Malenko takes on Jushin "Thunder" Liger in an excellent match. Gene Okerlund interviews Ric Flair, Woman and Elizabeth. We see a vignette promoting the coming of Glacier. Sting faces Steven Regal. The Giant defends the World Championship against Hacksaw Jim Duggan, filling in for Lex Luger, who didn't show up in time. Gene Okerlund interviews Sting and Lex Luger, who eventually did show up. Worth watching for the Malenko versus Liger match.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage Vs Hugh Morrus

Morrus wins by DQ after Savage tosses Morris over the top rope. Savage snaps after the match and chokes out Morris with his jacket. He also gives a flying elbow drop from the top to a referee. The match isn't really worth talking about. Savage's antics after the match were so badass! As a huge Savage fan, he was getting stale as Hogan's sidekick. This reinvigorated him in a big way and the crowd loved it.

Dean Malenko Vs Jushin "Thunder" Liger

Malenko pins Liger with a double underhook into a sit-down powerbomb. This match was pretty fun and could have been great if it was a bit longer. My only complaint is they had a couple of sloppy spots, but I won't carp too much.

**3/4

Ric Flair is having a cocktail party with Woman and Miss Elizabeth. He says he's not overly upset about losing to The Giant because The Giant got lucky. He invites Debra McMichael to have a drink with him, but she turns him down by pouring the drink out.

Sting Vs Lord Steven Regal

Sting pins Regal by reversing a butterfly suplex into a backdrop bridge. This match ended just as I was starting to get into it. I liked the way Sting pinned Regal, though. I thought that was pretty cool.

WCW Heavyweight Championship

The Giant (C) (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan

This was supposed to be Lex Luger vs The Giant, but Luger hasn't arrived in the building yet. The Giant wins with a chokeslam. You have all the guys on the roster to replace Luger and you choose Duggan?

1/4*

The Giant attacks Duggan some more after the match. Some preliminary wrestlers, like Alex Wright and The Cobra try to save The Giant, but get chokeslammed for their troubles. Ric Flair comes down and nails The Giant over the head with a wooden chair, but it barely phases The Giant. Sting comes down and manages to get The Giant in the scorpion deathlock until Jimmy Hart breaks it up and nails Sting with the megaphone. Luger finally runs down and wards off The Giant. Sting confronts Luger about being late to the arena and accuses him of not wanting to wrestle The Giant because he did the same thing on WCW Saturday Night as well. Luger and Sting argue as Nitro goes off the air.

Thoughts: One week you think Luger is a face, the other you think he's a shady tweener. His booking ever since he came to WCW in late 95 has been very confusing.
