Cruiserweight Championship
Dean Malenko (C) Vs Rey Mysterio Jr.
Mysterio wins the title with a huricarana. These two absolutely killed it! You could really see the amazing chemistry that was developing between these two after the disappointing match they had at The Great American Bash. This match really jumpstarted Rey's career and put him on the map. It's just a fantastic match. My only complaint is the incessant use of the word unmanly by Larry Zbyszko.
****
The Nasty Boys and The Steiner Brothers are facing each other in a number one contender's match later tonight to face Harlem Heat at Hog Wild. They quarrel with each other over their match backstage.
Big Bubba Rogers & Hugh Morrus Vs Steven Regal & Dave Taylor (W/Bobby Eaton)
This is heels vs heels. John Tenta comes out and starts brawling with Big Bubba. Regal and Taylor take advantage by hitting a double back suplex on Morrus for the win. This was pretty pointless.
½*
Psychosis Vs Eddie Guerrero
Eddie wins with the frogsplash.I enjoyed this match a lot. As soon as I heard these two were facing each other, I pumped my fist. WCW's cruiserweight division was on fire at this time!
***1/4
Jimmy Hart is at a loss for words over Hulk Hogan betraying WCW. Kevin Sullivan says he's been trying to end Hulkamania for a year and a half and Hogan just ended Hulkamania by himself. The Giant says the WCW title is safe in his hands, because he's the one who took the title from Hogan at Halloween Havoc back in October of 95.
Hour Two.
Your hosts are Eric Bischoff & Bobby Heenan
Number One Contender's Match
The Nasty Boys Vs The Steiner Brothers
The Steiner's win due to outside interference from Col. Robert Parker. This was entirely predictable and rather dull as well. The good thing is, we get to see Sister Sherri as she had been absent from WCW programming for a while.
*1/4
The Nasty Boys aren't offended by what Hulk Hogan did because it reminds them of their old selves.
United States Championship
Ric Flair (C) (W/Miss Elizabeth, Debra & Woman) Vs Jim Powers
Flair wins with the Figure Four. Powers got in far more offense than I expected here. As a result, this is a competitive match, if nothing else.
*1/2
Gene Okerlund interviews the Four Horsemen.
Sgt. Craig Pittman (W/Teddy Long) Vs Chris Beniot
Beniot wins after Teddy Long throws in the towel when Beniot has the Crippler Crossface slapped on. There were some nice suplexes in this match from both! That's probably the best compliment I can give it.
3/4*
Arn Anderson Vs Sting
Sting beats Anderson by submission with the Scorpion Deathlock. During the match, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall show up. Randy Savage shows up as well to try to get at Hall & Nash through security. The focus was about The Outsiders showing up. The rest was secondary.
**
Sting cuts a money promo about Hulk Hogan. He says he's shocked by Hogan's betrayal, but he should have known after Hogan referred to him, Savage, and Luger as three little dogs. Hogan was too busy in Hollywood to have any time for them. He says Hogan was busy taking a walk on the darkside. Savage basically says he's gonna beat up Hogan really bad. It's also the first time that Hogan is referred to as "Hollywood Hogan"
The Outsiders confirm that Hogan will be here next week. We also get stills from Hogan's betrayal at Bash of the Beach.
7/10 overall.
