Hour One.
(96.9.9)
Live from Columbus, GA
Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Larry Zbyszko
Super Calo Vs Pat Tanaka
Super Calo wins. This match is so fast that if you blink, you'll miss it. It seemed like there were a couple of huge spots, and then it ended. I liked where it was heading, and more time would have been nice.
* The NWO promote their new N W O t-shirt. They say the profit's go to Ric Flair's retirement. Ha!
The Nasty Boys Vs The Amazing French Canadians (Jacques Rougeau & Carl Ouellet)
The Nasty Boys win after nailing Carl Ouellet with a flag in the back of the head. This was actually quite watchable, thanks to The French Canadians. It's not a great match, but it's watchable.
*1/2
The Nasty Boys claim they can care less about what the NWO does. All they care about are the tag team titles.
Submission Match
Scott Norton Vs Sgt. Craig Pittman (W/Teddy Long)
Norton wins after Ice Train comes in and throws in the towel. This was confusing garbage that didn't deserve to be on television. WCW tested my patience at times with some of the pointless things they did.
The Four Horsemen argue with Lex Luger because Sting isn't there with him. Luger insists he's in the building.
Juventud Guerrera Vs Joe Gomez Juventud wins with a twisting splash. This was a glorified squash match. Juvi was a little sloppy here.
*
Nick Patrick insists he's team WCW all the way, and he goes by the book in ruling matches.
Ted Dibiase has the NWO handing out NWO flyers in the parking lot. In the pouring rain? What a bastard!
Hour two.
Your hosts are Eric Bischoff, Bobby Heenan & Mike Tenay.
Lex Luger Vs Rick Steiner
Referee, Nick Patrick runs out and lures Lex Luger into the parking lot. Ted Dibiase is overheard talking to Sting in the limo. Lex Luger comes out and asks where Sting is. Sting comes out of the limo and attacks Lex Luger with the NWO!! Sting has souled out, or has he?
Thoughts: I bet people probably s*** themselves when they saw Sting in the NWO.
Cruiserweight Championship
Rey Mysterio (C) Vs Billy Kidman
If they cut to another segment during this match, I'll be very annoyed. Mysterio pins Kidman with a sommersault senton. Sigh. This got a minute and 40 seconds. Stop teasing me like this!
*1/4
Meng & The Barbarian (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs Public Enemy
Meng & The Barbarian win by submission. People went through tables, and that's always fun. The match felt so unimportant because right in the middle of the match, Lex Luger & The Four Horsemen talk about Sting joining The NWO.
**
"Macho Man" Randy Savage Vs John Tenta
Savage has the match won with the flying elbow from the top, but Teddy Long runs out and lures Randy Savage to the back. The limo drives off before Savage can get to it. However, there is still another limo. A bunch of WCW wrestlers come out and they all spray paint "WCW" in yellow on the other limo.
*1/2
The Four Horsemen invade the announcer's table. Arn Anderson says Hogan's emulating what The Horsemen did 10 years ago when it was Flair, Anderson, Ole Anderson, and Tully Blanchard. He thought Sting was the one constant in WCW and the only real person left. Come Fall Brawl, he's gonna take Sting's head off. Flair says Hogan's not gonna make it out alive after War Games is over at Fall Brawl. Great promo from Anderson. I loved his intensity.
6.5/10 overall.
