I remember when I watched this series by the first time, a lot of its themes went over my head; expecting a more conventional horror story, I found the story pretty confusing; but I liked a lot the animation style and its eerie atmosphere in particular.
In many ways, this series had pretty in common with Serial Experiments Lain, with a rather unusual, surreal take on a story about an alien invasion.
Each episode followed a different protagonist, and most of them ended in a bitter note...The first episode was actually one of the very few with a (relatively speaking) "happy ending", and by "happy ending", I mean the protagonist of this particular chapter did not die or get crazy.
