It comes from Sony Pictures Television’s B17 Entertainment, Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions and Fox Entertainment.
B17 was founded by Brien Meagher and Rhett Bachner and is behind series such as Roku’s Thanks A Million and Netflix’s History of Swear Words.

The One Show host Alex Jones has claimed her ex Steve Jones once lied to stop her from interviewing Angelina Jolie.
Alex, who dated fellow TV presenter Steve from 1999 to 2002, recorded an appearance on Dish podcast with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, in which she revealed the lengths her former partner went to prevent her from getting the interview gig – a betrayal that led to their break-up.
At the time, Alex was working as an entertanment correspondent for the Channel 4 series Rise.
The Welsh presenter said the opportunity to interview the Mr and Mrs Smith actor arose, but Steve told her bosses that she was sick when she was actually just out at the shops.

Exclusive: Roku has quickly found its new scripted boss.
The free-ad supported streaming service has promoted Brian Tannenbaum to oversee scripted content following news of Colin Davis’ departure to Sony Pictures Television. Deadline revealed earlier this afternoon that Davis, who was Head of Scripted Originals, is joining the studio as EVP, Comedy Development.
Lydia Antonini remains Head of Creative Affairs and Morgan Pichinson remains Head of Comedy.
Tannenbaum has spent the last couple of years as Head of Alternative Originals and will now oversee all original programming for the service. Quibi continues to face headwinds nearly two months after launching, but the mobile-focused streaming startup has told its staff that reports of imminent layoffs are inaccurate.
In an internal memo Wednesday, founder Jeffrey Katzenberg and CEO Meg Whitman said senior executives have agreed to take a 10% pay cut “because it’s the right thing to do.” The Wall Street Journal earlier in the day had reported the startup was contemplating layoffs of up to 10% of its 250-person workforce.
“Nothing has changed since our last company meeting two weeks ago,” the memo said. “Quibi is in a good financial position. As we said in that meeting, we will look for ways to tighten our belt. We are not laying off staff as a part of cost saving measures. We’ve recently added a dozen new Quibi employees.”

We already know that Jennifer Lopez has the vocal chops to light up a stage, but the Hustlers star took her artistry to another level on Saturday, April 18. Lopez made an appearance during the One World: Together at Home special, singing a cover of Barbra Streisand's "People." The singer, who is currently self-isolating with fiancé Alex Rodriguez and their children, filmed the performance in her string-light-decorated backyard, perched against a tree.
Though the performance was a more understated and gentle act than we usually expect from the singer, that didn't make it any less powerful. Lopez clearly connected with the song's lyrics, which are all about needing one another and not letting pride get in the way of connecting with people. It's a particularly poignant song considering the special is dedicated to the healthcare workers working on the front lines to fight the Covid-19 outbreak.

Quibi is not moving ahead with a planned series dramatizing the rise of Snapchat and its founder, Evan Spiegel, Variety has learned exclusively.
The project was announced at the SXSW film festival last year by Quibi founder and board chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg. It was to be based on the feature script “Frat Boy Genius” by Elissa Karasik, which was featured on the 2018 Black List.
“We want to tell a story that’s as compelling and interesting about Snapchat and Evan as ‘The Social Network’ was for Facebook,” Katzenberg said at the time.
The news comes just one week after the launch of the mobile-only streaming app, which aims to premium short form content to subscribers in brief chapters, or “quick bites.” Quibi CEO Meg Whitman said earlier on Monday that the app had been downloaded 1.7 million times since launch. The service launched with a 90-day free trial.

Updated: Quibi, the mobile-only streaming service from Jeffrey Katzenberg, said it hit 1.7 million installations within the first week of launch — higher than third-party estimates. According to analysts, the big-budget, short-form video streamer has had a relatively tepid reception in part because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Quibi said Monday that it reached 1.75 million downloads. By contrast, according to research firm Apptopia, the Quibi app had been downloaded and installed 1.15 million times as of Sunday, April 12. The service launched with a 90-day free trial.
Downloads have been fairly evenly split between iOS and Android devices, with about 87% of the installs from the U.S. and 6% from Canada, according to Apptopia data. Quibi’s app is available worldwide but the startup, led by Katzenberg and CEO Meg Whitman, is focusing its marketing and customer-acquisition efforts on North America.

Quibi’s first-day app downloads hit around 300,000, coming after months of steady hype surrounding Jeffrey Katzenberg’s ambitious mobile-only streaming service.
That’s according to preliminary estimates from mobile-analytics firm Sensor Tower. Currently, as of Tuesday morning, Quibi ranks as the No. 3 top free app overall on Apple’s App Store in the U.S. (following Zoom and TikTok).
Compared with the bow of Disney Plus, Quibi had a far smaller jump out of the gate: On Nov. 12, 2019, the Mouse House’s streaming app notched approximately 4 million installs in the U.S. and Canada. That puts Quibi’s Day One download total at 7.5% of Disney Plus for the same territories, per Sensor Tower.
To be sure, Disney Plus benefited from a large collection of brand-name movie and TV titles, including Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel and Disney films, as well as 30 seasons of “The Simpsons” along with originals like “The Mandalorian.

Just like Quibi’s turnstyle feature will let you flip your phone seamlessly from vertical to horizontal while watching the upcoming Punk’d revival and more, tech firm Eko on Tuesday flipped the script on the Jeffrey Katzenberg-founded streamer with a lawsuit of its own.
Coming one day after Quibi sued the Israeli company in federal court, Eko today filed a suit to shut down the April 6 launch of the well-founded Meg Whitman-run mobile streamer.
“This is a case to stop the theft of Eko’s technology by Quibi, alleging a civil action for patent infringement under the patent laws of the United States, and misappropriation of trade secrets under the Defend Trade,” said Eko’s Goodwin Procter lawyers in a 22-page complaint filed in U.S. District Court (read it here). “Because Eko’s remedy at law is inadequate, Eko seeks, in addition to damages, permanent injunctive...

A technology that Quibi has been touting ahead of its April launch that will allow users to watch content on the short-form site in either portrait or landscape mode is at the center of a legal fight with tech company Eko, which is claiming the tech is theirs.
Quibi on Monday filed a 15-page complaint in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles calling for a declaration that it did not infringe Eko’s technology\ and demands Eko withdraw a notice of complaint of infringement it filed last week to Apple’s app store, as well as deny any request for injunctive relief. The Jeffrey Katzenberg-led mobile video site also seeks legal fees and “any other relief the court deems just ahead of what Quibi’s lawyers call “Quibi’s highly anticipated launch.”

Created by longtime Hollywood and Silicon Valley power players Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, upcoming streaming platform Quibi will launch soon, on April 6. One of its flagship series is “The Fugitive,” from “Scorpion” creator Nick Santora. Check out the first teaser for the upcoming series below.
“The Fugitive” remakes the classic 1960s TV series, which previously spawned a film version in 1993 that won Tommy Lee Jones the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. In Quibi’s version, blue-collar worker Mike Ferro (played by Boyd Holbrook) is wrongly pinned for a Los Angeles metro bombing, and he’s forced to take the investigation of the real culprit into his own hands. But he’s up against detective Clay Bryce (Kiefer Sutherland), who’s targeting Mike amid a city riven by panic and fake news as Mike’s life and rumored complicity in the crime become media fodder.

Quibi’s April 6 launch is inching closer, and the mobile short-form streaming service made an aggressive sales pitch Wednesday morning at CES in Las Vegas.
The upcoming platform, created by longtime Hollywood and Silicon Valley power players Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, has raised plenty of eyebrows since its unveiling in 2018, and not just because the streaming service will only work on mobile devices. Episodes of each Quibi series will run under 10 minutes, and the platform, short for “quick bites,” has tapped a dizzying array of high-profile actors, content creators, and major companies to create or invest in the service. Katzenberg and Whitman told CES attendees during a keynote that the service will release roughly 175 series within its first year, which they say would equate to around three hours of new content every day. The service has already attracted $1.4 billion in investments, including from Disney and other studios
