The 66th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 4, during two ceremonies: the afternoon Premiere Ceremony where most of the awards will be handed out, and the prime time telecast on CBS and Paramount+ hosted for the fourth year in a row by Trevor Noah. But who will win? Scroll down for our official odds in 37 categories, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. Our projected winners are highlighted in gold.
Sza enters these awards with the most nominations (nine), followed by R&b breakout Victoria Monet, alternative singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers and engineer/mixer Serban Ghenea with seven apiece. This year’s awards also marked a number of changes and updates. The Recording Academy consolidated its categories into just 11 fields in order to give voters more flexibility as to which categories they participate in.

It’s hard to imagine a world where Foo Fighters don’t take Best Rock Album at the Grammys this year. They’re rock favorites, achieving 13 wins in the field. Most of the band’s albums have won Grammys, and they hold the record for the most wins for any artist in this category, with five. On top of all that history, their nominated record, “But Here We Are,” is perhaps their most acclaimed yet. It scored 86 on Metacritic, their highest score ever. The album is also a tribute to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away tragically in 2022. So history, acclaim and narrative will likely join forces to give Foo Fighters another Grammy win, and one of their most deserved at that.

Tens of thousands of music fans braved the desert heat for three days at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California to witness six of the biggest hard rock and metal bands of all time perform at the inaugural Power Trip festival. Lars Ulrich was only 19 when Metallica released their speed limit–defying debut, Kill ‘Em All, in 1983. On each successive album, the metal musicians waited for the mainstream to come to them. Then, their 1991 “Black Album” became the bestselling album of the past three decades thanks to songs like “Enter Sandman” and “Nothing Else Matters.” Every album they’ve put out since has gone to Number One or Two, and their Eighties anthem “Master of Puppets” recently enjoyed a renaissance thanks to Stranger Things.

Original Metallica bassist Ron McGovney recently offered praise to a former bandmate while tweeting about the legendary metal act’s early demo No Life ‘Til Leather: “Dave Mustaine just kills it on this tape … He leaves the rest of us in the dust.”
Although both McGovney and Mustaine never played on a proper Metallica album, the latter’s name did appear in the writing credits for several tracks on their first two records.
During our recent chat with the Megadeth frontman about his signature Gibson Collection (enter a giveaway for a Kramer or Epiphone guitar below), Mustaine returned kind words to McGovney.

Back in April, Metallica kicked off their “M72 World Tour” with a two-night stand in Amsterdam. The thrash legends apparently made the most of their stay in the Dutch capital, recording a four-song live-in-studio EP entitled The Amsterdam Sessions.
The surprise release dropped Wednesday (June 14th) exclusively via Amazon Music, where it can be streamed in full.
Per Metallica’s official discography, the EP’s four songs were recorded on April 18th at Ready Set Studios by producer Greg Fidelman and engineer Jason Gossman.
Notably, the band runs through two numbers from 72 Seasons, marking the second official live release of “Lux Æterna” following a version from the 2022 Helping Hands benefit show (released digitally last December) and the first official live recording of “If Darkness Had a Son.” A film crew helmed by producer/director Jim Parsons was also present for sessions, with a clip of the latter song currently streaming on YouTube.

In fashion, credits are everything.

Because credits are crucial, now is the time to point out that not only is the 30-minute gay Western presented by the house, Saint Laurent received associate producer credit while creative director Anthony Vaccarello served as the costume designer for the 1910-set pic.

Moreover, the setlists will feature songs comprising the band’s full career, from 1983’s Kill ‘Em All to 2023’s 72 Seasons. According to a release, the band won’t play a single song twice, so they’ll play more than 30 songs across both nights. In other words, it’s exactly how Metallica are running their “M72 World Tour” (tickets available here).

Metallica’s first album in nearly seven years has arrived, and it just might be the iconic metal band’s best LP in the past 30 years. As stated in our recent review, 72 Seasons is a “monument to an illustrious career.”
Prior to its release, fans were treated to four singles — “Lux Æterna,” “Screaming Suicide,” “If Darkness Had a Son,” and the title track — all mighty examples of the strong effort Metallica have delivered with 72 Seasons.
Metallica are in a full promotional blitz for 72 Seasons, having taken over Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, as they get set to embark on their massive 2023-2024 “M72 World Tour” later this month (tickets available here). With the band performing two unique sets over two nights in each city, expect to hear a good number of the new songs played live during the course of the two-year run.

The Cannes Film Festival is about to get even more fashionable, as two short films – including Pedro Almodóvar’s highly anticipated “Strange Way of Life” – will debut next month from the newly formed Saint Laurent Productions, a film production banner led by its artistic director Anthony Vaccarello.
Saint Laurent Productions is being described as the first production banner operated by a fashion house, the new outfit is also developing projects by a wide range of diverse filmmakers including Paolo Sorrentino, David Cronenberg, Abel Ferrara, Wong Kar Wai, Jim Jarmusch and Gaspar Noé. The second short film hitting Cannes hasn’t been announced yet; let the speculation begin. The plan is produce two or three films each year, with a possible expansion after that.
Vaccarello became the artistic director of Saint Laurent in 2016. In 2019 “Lux Æterna,” a strobe-heavy 51-minute film directed Noé, premiered at Cannes. Vaccarello was one of the credited...

In a development that confirms our long-held beliefs (fashion is fake but movies are real), Saint Laurent’s artistic director Anthony Vaccarello has launched Saint Laurent Productions. No surprising turn to those who’ve kept co-productions in their eyes: the last few years have seen a range of projects from capital-a Auteurs supported by the capital-m Major fashion house. Some (Noé’s Lux Æterna) got proper releases; others are nice curious or (like Almodóvar’s Cannes-bound Strange Way of Life) anticipated entirely on their own terms. What we’ve seen wouldn’t suggest corporate stranglehold––I think Charlotte Gainsbourg briefly flashes a Ysl bag in Lux Æterna?––but a resource-fueled place using power for good, or something like it. [Variety]
It’s then encouraging that Saint Laurent Productions, which aims for two or three films per year, already has a who’s-who of big figures on their docket: David Cronenberg’s...

Can Metallica actually master puppets? That was the question posed to the metal icons on Wednesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, resulting in a hilarious sketch. Oh, and the band also rocked an epic rendition of “Master of Puppets” on the show.
Following his monologue, host Jimmy Kimmel introduced a pre-taped segment in which the four members of Metallica went to marionette school to learn how to become puppeteers. After a quick lesson from the pros, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers were tasked with performing a theatrical production in front of a group of young children.
Lars Ulrich had the honor of appearing first, controlling a cactus puppet, as he began the story of how Metallica became a band in an amusing high-pitched voice. James Hetfield came out next, manipulating a cat puppet. Soon followed Kirk Hammett, the donkey, and Robert Trujillo, the invisible man.

Metallica continued their residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live with a raucous, eight-minute rendition of their 1986 song “Master of Puppets.” The metal band, performing a four-night stint on the late-night show, gave the hard-hitting song its full due on the Kimmel stage.
The live rendition of “Master of Puppets” follows performances of “Holier Than Thou” and “Lux Æterna” earlier this week. In addition, the band members participated in a segment to discover if they could actually master puppets. In the clip, the musicians attempt to work puppets with the help of some experts.

Metallica performed “Holier Than Thou” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday (April 11th) — the second night of the band’s weeklong Kimmel residency leading up to the release of the new album 72 Seasons.
The “Black Album” selection is somewhat of a deep cut in Metallica’s vast catalog, as they’ve only played it a handful of times in recent years, saving it for special occasions such as festival dates and last year’s Helping Hands benefit concert. The Kimmel takeover was apparently worthy of the song, with the band laying into a raucous and energetic rendition in front of the studio audience.
It follows Monday night’s performance of the 72 Seasons single “Lux Æterna.” Both live takes were likely recorded Monday as part of a four-song set in front of Kimmel’s audience (per Setlist.fm). The set also included “Master of Puppets” — set to air tonight (April 12th...

Metallica kicked off their weeklong takeover of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (April 10th), chatting with the talk-show host and performing the single “Lux Æterna.”
The metal legends will release their new album, 72 Seasons, on Friday (April 14th), and leading up to its release, they’ll appear on Kimmel every night through Thursday. The Kimmel residency also precedes their 2023-2024 world tour, which kicks off later this month (tickets available here).
Kimmel started the jokes early, greeting James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo as “the most adorable boy band of all time.”
When Kimmel commented that he saw a line of their fans in the morning, and noticed that “half of them looked like they were in high school,” Ulrich responded, ‘That’s the boy band in us! I don’t think they know how old we are. Let’s keep this a secret between all of us.

Yellow and black are the colors of caution signs, fallout shelters, and “Baby on Board” placards — warnings of imminent menace and catastrophe if you don’t get your shit together. So it’s fitting that Metallica would adopt the color scheme for the cover of 72 Seasons, their meditation of sorts on the cruelty of youth and the dangers of growing up. Those subjects are nothing new to them (see “The Unforgiven,” “Dyers Eve”), but now that frontman James Hetfield and his bandmates hover around age 60, they’re seeing their journey to adulthood differently.

Metallica conjure the “wrath of man” in a molten hellscape in the video for “72 Seasons,” the title track of their upcoming album. James Hetfield sings bleak lyrics like “staring into black light, permanently midnight” and “mad seasons take their toll” while playing heavy, piston-chugging riffs. The song is a nearly eight-minute, epic journey reckoning with “72 seasons gone” – referring to the first 18 years of life – and all the hardships that accompany coming of age (plus a fiery, wah-wah inflected solo by Kirk Hammett, who cowrote the track with Hetfield and drummer...

Metallica have dropped the new song “72 Seasons” — the title track of their forthcoming album, arriving April 14th.
The band teased a significant portion of the song’s music video on social media before releasing the full track and music video today (March 30th). The performance clip sees the band illuminated by red lasers, giving off the effect of Metallica barreling through space.
It’s fitting visuals for what is the fastest and grooviest of the four singles we’ve heard from 72 Seasons, following “Lux Æterna,” “Screaming Suicide,” and “If Darkness Had a Son.” James Hetfield may have recently said that he and his fellow bandmates were “average” players, but this new track proves otherwise.
Lars Ulrich is locked into the pocket of the quick tempo, and the riff structures and palm-muted chugs hit with undeniable power. Hetfield’s more pronounced drawl also works nicely around the arrangement and vocal melody,...

Metallica have shared the new song “If Darkness Had a Son” — the third single from their upcoming album 72 Seasons, out April 14th.
The legendary metal band teased the track on TikTok earlier this week, prompting fans to perform a duet with the music as each member of Metallica added their respective part in a string of TikToks. It was later revealed the track, titled “If Darkness Had a Son,” would be released in full today (March 1st).
Now, the full seven-minute studio track is out (listen below), kicking off with military-style drums from Lars Ulrich and featuring a chugging guitar riff. James Hetfield’s vocals don’t kick in until a minute-and-a-half into the song, as he repeats the lyric “Temptation” multiple times.
Overall, Metallica steer this one into a more mid-tempo alternative metal direction as opposed to the direct thrash of previous singles “Lux Æterna,” and “Screaming Suicide.” Hetfield maintains a melodic,...

Metallica have taken to TikTok to tease what appears to be another new track off their upcoming album, 72 Seasons. An accompanying caption encourages fans to duet with the clip.
The 80-second instrumental has thus far been rolled out in three videos via the band’s TikTok channel, with each member essentially duetting with the previous clip. The first one features just Lars Ulrich playing drums, the next adds bassist Robert Trujillo, and the most recent one adds frontman James Hetfield. It can be assumed that Kirk Hammett’s contribution to the track will be posted on Tuesday.
The tune offers a chugging riff accompanied by military-like drumming. If this new piece of music does turn out to be a new song from 72 Seasons, it would follow previous singles “Lux Æterna” and “Screaming Suicide.”
With the caption “Duet this,” fans have already offered up some fun (and funny) accompaniments to the song.

Jonathan Majors has been winning rave reviews for his portrayal of Kang the Conqueror in new Marvel sequel “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”.

Jonathan Majors’ performance as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has already received universal acclaim from critics and journalists ahead of Friday’s worldwide release. According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, he also tested higher than any other MCU villain to date. Majors’ supervillain is the heir apparent to the Infinity Saga’s Thanos (Josh Brolin), and he stands to serve as the MCU’s big bad for at least a few more years, culminating in his own eponymous event film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025).
In 2021, the Loki season-one finale introduced a “variant” of the character known as He Who Remains, and he foretold that there would be many more incarnations of himself to come, such as Quantumania’s Kang. Director Darren Aronofsky's "Requiem for a Dream" is one of the most stunning and heartbreaking films to ever depict the loneliness and depravity associated with addiction. Adapted from Hubert Selby Jr.'s 1978 novel, Aronofsky's sophomore feature film cemented the filmmaker's unique style, combining gorgeous cinematography, close-up shots, and a harrowing score that perfectly enhances the disturbing fate of its characters. And years later, that score still haunts us.
A frequent collaborator with Aronofsky, composer Clint Mansell was able to apply his own menacing and melodic motifs that launched a career full of equally haunting scores. And some of the sounds featured in the score are, well ... unlikely.

The Notebook Primer introduces readers to some of the most important figures, films, genres, and movements in film history.Earwig (2021).There’s a moment in Lucile Hadžihalilović’s feverish 2021 psychodrama Earwig in which a man rifles through a small refrigerator, within it an icebox, and within that a stack of thick metallic cases, each one containing denture molds brimful of frozen saliva. Behind him sits a young girl in elaborate headgear, her small face flanked by tubes and two ampoules collecting her spit. The act is uncanny but clearly routine—a chilling, briefly expository moment that proffers countless questions and exemplifies Hadžihalilović’s aesthetic of reticence. Her films all possess this matryoshka-like effect, coming undone only to neatly curl back into themselves at will. As female-driven body horror stipples its way into the mainstream, Hadžihalilović’s work feels all the more resonant and, perhaps most crucially, misprized. Hadžihalilović auteurism is...

If not slowed down on typical duties, as evidenced by last year’s much-loved Parallel Mothers, Pedro Almodóvar’s recently expanded the scope of his projects. His Tilda Swinton-starrer The Human Voice stood among his best-liked work in a while, and nobody in their right mind complained it only cracked the 30-minute mark. We’d accordingly be pleased to hear he’s turning to another half-hour-or-so endeavor, all the more with word it’s a Brokeback Mountain-inspired western starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal made with the very thick, perfectly stylized purse strings of Saint Laurent, whose Self line has boasted work by Abel Ferrara (Sportin’ Life), Gaspar Noé (Lux Æterna), and Wong Kar-wai (who “curated” an ad.)
Entitled Strange Way of Life—the name taken from Amalia Rodrgues’ song that will open the film—it concerns “a pair of middle-aged gunslingers” and will shoot in Spain’s Almería region end of August.

Pedro Almodóvar has spent decades avoiding the allure of American studio projects, from “Sister Act” to “Brokeback Mountain,” and still doesn’t trust the system. “It’s kind of a contradiction,” he told IndieWire during a recent afternoon in his office in Madrid. “Hollywood wants to bring in outside talent, but they don’t always let them do what they want to do.”
These days, Almodóvar has addressed that conundrum by making the talent come to him. Continuing his toe-dip into English language filmmaking that started with his Tilda Swinton-starring short film “The Human Voice” in 2020, the 72-year-old director is on the verge of taking another step.
“Strange Way of Life,” which begins production in late August, will star Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal as a pair of middle-aged gunslingers at the center of a 30-minute Western. Much of the action will take place in the desert region of Spain’s Almería region,...
