The third track on one of my favorite rock records of the last decade, Okkervil River’s The Stage Names, is called “A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene.” Without context, its lyric is a bit of a tough nut to crack. Will Sheff sings about events unfolding on a TV screen in the first verse, recaps a dream in the second, and seems to outline the narrator’s innermost wishes in the third. What’s not immediately apparent is that the first verse outlines scenes from two completely different TV shows – scenes that happened to be scored by Okkervil River songs. The first half of the verse refers to “It Ends With a Fall” (from Down the River of Golden Dreams) and its use on the reality series Breaking Bonaduce. (I don’t have that clip handy.) The second half, and probably the more illustrative of the two in any case,...

Trekkies have reason to rejoice (as do the more serious-minded legions of Trekkers) with the arrival of Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season 1 on Blu-ray. Not coincidentally, we’re thinking, the first season of the popular science fiction-adventure TV series celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2012.
Star Trek: The Next Generation is set decades after Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner, TV’s Celebrity Bowling) and company’s 5-year mission in the original Star Trek series from the 1960s. The new generation of Starfleet officers in a new Enterprise set off on their own 24th Century mission to go where no one has gone before. Among the Enterprise’s officers are Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart, TV’s I, Claudius), Commander William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton, TV’s Roots), Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis,...

Walter Koenig doesn't shy away from a challenge. Writing scripts is a tough gig. Getting movies produced, especially indie fare; not so easy. Writer-producer Koenig, however, waged -- and won -- a near-decade-long battle to bring InAlienable (2010) to the screen. A sci-fi thriller and legal drama, InAlienable follows the plight of a guilt-ridden scientist, Dr. Norris (Richard Hatch), who gives birth to an alien-human hybrid child, a child that then becomes the focal point of a legal case over whether it's a living entity with rights or an abomination that must be destroyed. Koenig -- beloved by millions of fans worldwide for his portrayal of Chekov in the original-cast Star Trek series and features -- co-stars in the film as Dr. Norris's bitter boss, Shilling, while other familiar genre names include Gary Graham, Marina Sirtis, Alan Ruck, Erick Avari, Richard Herd, and Courtney Peldon. InAlienable is out now on DVD from Anchor Bay,...

InAlienable is both horror and science fiction in one. Walter Koening (Star Trek) scripted the film, produced it, and stars in this Renegade Studios production. InAlienable has just been released on DVD as of January twenty-sixth and this alien styled thriller involves a man hosting an alien parasite in his body. This creature gives birth to his son that could potentially become the end of the human race. InAlienable stars Walter Koenig, Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica), Erik Avari (Flight of the Living Dead), Marina Sirtis (Star Trek Voyager, Lesser of Three Evils) and Alan Ruck (Ghost Town). This mostly independent film was shot for a mere two million dollars, but from Slice of Sci-Fi InAlienable is "A brilliant piece of...work (Slice)." Have a look at a trailer inside and have closer look at the film through the Anchor Bay Entertainment website (distributor)."

While this is definitely more for the sci-fi buffs as opposed to horror fans, I couldn't help but share the DVD news on Anchor Bay Entertainment's Inalienable , especially after looking at the cover art (pictured left) and reading the following description: "In the film, scientist Eric Norris (Richard Hatch, Battlestar Galatica ) discovers his body is host to a parasite from another world. With the shocking revelation that this microscopic intruder also carries his DNA, Norris confronts the possibility that he might "give birth" to a new son to replace the one lost in a tragic accident years earlier. But will this birth represent a new fusion of human and alien . or spell doom for the entire human race?" Inalienable , written by Star Trek's Walter Koenig...
