Aftermath
evansjoshyr2 January 2021
Cobra kai is back. The title's pretty self explanatory: its just the after effect of season 2 finale (just like s2 ep1 did the same for s1 finale). A few things I liked were:

-Johnny hits another low after he feels he failed both his student and his son

-Sam has especially bad Ptsd that she overcomes throughout the episode

-Miguel's coma is treated like a big karate fight that miguel has to overcome. This seems true to his character. This fight serves as visions he has while in the coma as well as a representation of it.

Overall a good episode that makes me glad cobra kai is back and excited for what's to come

minor spoilers

A slow paced but good and important episode. I like Sam's arc, and I am very happy they are showing the effects of the school fight this season, happy they didn't forget a climax like that.

I think it feels quite evident that this season, lacked a few of the characters.

Aisha is a big one, Stringay too. Aisha could have most certainly been worked into the plot, I don't think it takes a genius to slot her in, and i'm sure the writers would have known that, but had other reasons, which I don't intend to investigate as to why they didn't include Nicole this season.

Great season, amazed how they blur genres within scenes
whatch-179317 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Season three is great, and better than season two, imho.

I'm amazed how they blur genres but keep it credible. In the school meeting, it's part quite serious, part funny, part meta parody. "We heard YOU were the bully!" "We don't want to make this Karate Footloose."

That said, it seemed some people got off lightly here. I would expect several people to be expelled from school. Particularly Hawk and probably Miguel. Probably most of the students fighting in the battle, perhaps even Dimitri.

Definitely happy Stingray was gone. I was never a fan and at best found a few of his moments mildly funny. He seemed it out of place, though the show did acknowledge this multiple times.

Ramifications
ninjaboyballer1 January 2021
This episode imo did a really good job at handling the aftermath of the S2 finale, and how a school and the media would respond to it. The characters were all in their own separate places for the most part and I think the places they are at the moment are fitting, considering where we left off last. This episode is a bit more serious then most but honestly I like that's bit. It shows Cobra Kai isn't just a comedy but a well written drama. The one minor complaint I have is the fact they bring up what we already know multiple times and at one point we just kinda get it. However I did like some of the lines of dialogue and thought some were even a bit meta towards what people were suggesting would happen in the show when it returned

Overall "Aftermath" is a solid pick up from last season and imo it was worth seeing it after the almost 2 year wait. Looking forward to the rest of the season

Almost

I'm glad season 3 is back and in almost full swing. Everyone is still trying to recover from the effects of the karate war and Johnny has a couple of other battles to fight.

The removal of Aisha cheapens the show for me. She was a major character, a great symbol of diversity, and fierceness. The show is a lot of fun but to write her out so pathetically...we deserved more. She probably did too.

And It's...The Aftermath
Gislef3 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not a trope is left unturned. Johnny gets drunk, and Miguel has a "dream fight" coma to demonstrate that he's fighting out of his coma. Kreese (Martin Kove) smirks and makes insulting comments about Miyagi. And Louie is a lovable idiot.

'Cobra Kai' runs on the strength of the actor and actress performances, and nostalgia for the 1984 movie and the 80s in general (see also 'Stranger Things'). It's also doing something that I think is unique on American TV: it's about two people caught in a feud that started over 30 years ago. 'Cobra Kai" plays on the nostalgia, since we probably wouldn't care about any of it except that Johnny and Daniel are involved. Would we care if it was Joe Blow and Johnny Smith squabbling with each other? Probably not.

Other than Johnny and Daniel, the high school kids/actors are pretty forgettable. The only one who really gets an arc here is Sam (Mary Mouser), since Miguel is in a coma and Robbie is on the run and only gets one dialogue-less scene. That could change, sure, but right now the focus is on the Johnny/Daniel/Kreese triangle.

Despite that, the show does manage to focus on a few other modern-day issues. Like violence in school. Blatt's embarrassed response to the parents' disgust with "Hugs Not Hits" campaign is amusing. The production staff doesn't dwell on the modern-day commentary but rather the soap opera antics and the 80s nostalgia. Which is probably for the best: do we need a lot of preaching?

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

Johnny is the man
day_sp161 January 2021
William is doing an amazing job! Johnny is so lovable you could have never imagined that but seeing him in Karate Kid. He became a good role model and even he has his flaws, we can see him getting better by every episode. Can't wait to see how this ends and really hope it ends well for him

The aftermath
Kingslaay1 January 2021
I am beside myself that Cobra Kai has returned. Even more pleased they brought forward the release for season 3. This is a great show. I found the first episode of season 3 more a set up episode. Nothing too explosive or eventful, a rather slow aftermath as our main characters deal with the consequences. Johnny sadly seems to be going back to his old self, whenever he faces a major setback he hits the bottle hard. I can't wait to watch more

Setbacks
Calicodreamin18 January 2021
It's kind of frustrating because it feels like a setback for the characters, I would like too see what character development there is maintained. However, a good episode with a heartfelt storyline.

Great comeback!
moritzherz4 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A F T E R M A T H.

The first two seasons of Cobra Kai were some great pieces of art. Funny, exciting, emotional.

So the third season starts right after the shocking events in season two's finale and I think they did it quite well. It's a slow start, but a good one. Lawrence is as great as ever and you really can see the consequences of the finale troubeling him. LaRussos are also struggeling and behind all that John Kreese is working on his Cobra Kai team, preparing for an big assault agains the mariagi dojo.

So we all know where this is going, but it's still exciting and very well written. Also I hope Lawrence and LaRusso will team up in the end to fight Kreese together.

I also cannot await when Miguel awakes and does some crazy things with Lawrence. The synergy between them is some of the best I've seen in televison. And I hope Lawrence finally get's out of his troubles. It is funny, but him beeing a sensei is far better than seeing him in such bad condition.

For that said, I am hyped for the next episode.

GOOD SEASON OPENER
deanbeckton2 January 2021
Picking up straight after the events of the season finale, we see the characters begin dealing with the negative impact they had on themselves and each other. This episode pretty much sets the tone for next few episodes. Nothing much exciting happens, but there's enough to wet your tongue for what's to come. It's also refreshing to see the show address and challenge slightly more serious topics, all the while keeping things light and fun.

Danny's son looks and acts like a jerk in his one brief scene.
StanleyCupBruins8 January 2021
Aisha and Stingray should have been in season 3. Plus, not enough of Moon. Moon's buck tooth friend is in season 3.

Danny's son is the least likable character in season 3.

Great start to the season!
yaszi-832969 November 2021
So this episode shows the aftermath of the crazy events that happened in the last episode, aka ep 10 season 2, the finale of season 2. I don't know why anyone would rate this anything other than a 10, it does exactly what it's supposed to, it's not trying to be the best tv episode in tv show history! It's just a simple great start that shows the characters after the crazy finale of the last season finale, and also what the characters are going to do next, this perfectly sets up the next episode, this also shows a depressed Johnny Lawrence that is going to his old ways, when he gets heart broken he drinks and gets sad, but this was something else! He lost everything pretty much, but eventually he needs his childhood karate rival, the thing that started his whole franchises help.
