Good Ending but not a Great One
saveedali18 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This isn't the Supergirl Show anymore, it's the Lex Luthor Show!

Leviathan was built up as dangerous and a formidable opponent at the end of Season 4 but this season really hasn't showed much of them at all, especially after Crisis. It's all been about how Lex rose to power and how he is continuing to gain power.

Leviathan has just been established as a pawn in Lex's game which is quite disappointing. I really don't understand how Jemma even trusted Lex in the first place (yes I know he played her by faking his care for them but don't they really know Lex's intentions since they are supposed to be Immortal Gods).

Also I understand how Supergirl's speech influenced the people to leave the Unity Festival (which was a great speech) but what I don't get is how all of them chose to leave it. I mean there would at least be some people who would have considered to stay.

Eve Tessmacher character was also ruined this season revealing that she only joined Leviathan because they threatened here mother (that could have been done better).

However, I did like Lena and Supegirl reconciling in this episode, it added depth to both their character's development and you could feel the chemistry between them.

Best season finale of Supergirl!
RahulM00720 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Supergirl has never had an amazing season finale, but this episode comes pretty close to reaching the golden standard of Arrow and the Flash. This episode was tremendously fast paced, action packed and had brilliantly acted out scenes from Melissa Benoist. Supergirl's message of hope to humanity was extremely touching and so relevant right now.

Right off the bat, this episode takes place mere seconds after the penultimate episode. The opening scene saw Lex Luthor finally entering the base of operations of Leviathan. I loved how Lex acted so presumptuous and all knowing around Gemma Cooper.

Gemma Cooper's true form was revealed in this episode. I was totally flummoxed when she lost control and turned into a robot. I guess she is gone for good.

Brainy's story arc has apparently ended. He trapped the immortal gods in a bottle, but by doing so he killed himself or so it seems. I believe that his fate is still ambiguous and will only be addressed in season 6.

Nia Nal's sudden visions about Brainy transforming into Brainiac-5 was a nice touch and kept me intrigued to finding out what will happen to Brainy. From the moment I first saw Nia's vision in episode 18, I became much more invested in Brainy's story arc. Hopefully, Nia will have one final scene with Brainy before he presumably dies in season 6.

To conclude, Supergirl delivers its best season finale, full of surprises and cliffhangers. I am enthused to find out how Lex Luthor is ultimately defeated, now that he has the bottle with the immortal gods in his possession. Jon Cryer fully embodies his character Lex Luthor and hope he is defeated properly. Too bad that sixth season of Supergirl will only air in Spring 2021.

Final verdict: 8.5/10

jeetubisen18 May 2020
This was a really fast paced episode. As always the chemistry between lena and kara is amazing. The intensity in the fighting scene were good too. This finale has everything suspence, action, great acting, amazing dialogues, reference to Harry Potter(which is mentioned in one of the reviews), cliffhanger.

This is what we've been wanting all season!

Warning: Spoilers
Finally, Lena and Kara have an adult conversation and take small steps throughout the episode leading to them explaining their own sides and agreeing to work together against Lex. Katie McGrath was wonderful in conveying strong emotions with subtle glances throughout the episode. Her chemistry with Melissa Benoist elevated every scene they had together.

The Harry Potter scene was brilliant! We saw Brainy willing to sacrifice his own life for his friends and a great Alex scene as vigilante! We finally saw female empowerment back, which has been largely missing to focus on Lex and boost William this season.

Bonus: William got shot and had minimum scenes this episode. Negatives- this seasons plot was so unorganized, it was hard to tie it all together at the end. I wish William would have died since he has been unnecessary after superfriends solved his missing bestfriend drama.

exciting!

The temporafa has had its ups and downs but this closure left a good taste ... despite the fact that they had to link two episodes and save some things I liked how the episode developed. Melissa Katie's performances were great. I believe them when they express their feelings in each scene. Alex and her new outfit was great. Nia, Kelly Megan perfect, a pity that Brainy was away from the supergirl team, but well he had his own role in this story. Lex! hateful but a great villain and to finish the final appearance of Lilian Luthor. oh rao !! she will be the villain for the next season? The chapter entertained me and that is a lot since the previous ones have not stood out much. Let's hope for a better season 6 and I would like an alien villain, more action and not too much drama 😆

The episode was perfect. All interaction of the female cast and empowerment. They left nothing to be desired, congratulations to those involved. Looking forward to the next season. In the meantime, I keep replaying the previous seasons. Strong hug to the whole team.

Warning: Spoilers
Y'all happy now, Alex has her costume! Of course it didn't help her much against pebble throwing immortal....oooh, scary! Then Jon supposedly gets hurt to make us worry and the rest face off like a bunch of fools at a western showdown. Oh, and for the 29th episode in a row Supergirl gets smacked around. I guess it is more about the soap opera worthy make ups that whomever this show is marketed to really did (though the Alex line "jinx" was clever...probably an ad lib so good) Tess is good again, just wants her mom and of course bad make up Brainy is torn, love Lex or his super friends. Shrink them and put them in bottle? Yeah, now that will show em, till some far fetched plot is needed and they will add water and rehydrate them zzzz Leviathan zzzzz Just get rid of pathetic Lex next weekend and DO NOT let him return for any reason, dude is played.

Quite Solid
KookShanty19 May 2020
This makeshift finale had a lot going for it. Great special effects, many emotional character moments, and some fun surprises along the way. The conclusion was a bit anti-climactic though, without a big final battle these shows are known for. Another problem is that the episode just kind of ended after all the big moments, even though we expect a bit of aftermath in finales. I can't blame the writers for this last problem however because this is a combination of two episodes, and I feel it managed to be satisfying despite that.

i still have hope
shipperofships18 May 2020
Given the circumstances, the finale was pretty good.

It was clear that the showrunners hastly rewrote the last episodes of the season after the backlash, especially the whole Kara and Lena storyline, and I am so glad they did.

I hope that with the longer hiatus they will finally understand what the viewers what to see on their screens. And I'm not just talking about supercorp. It was so good to see everyone, especially the women of the show, working together. THIS is what we want to see every episode.

It's a shame that we'll most likely have to deal with Lex for the next season though.

This season was a mess overall and at the end of the day the only thing that come out of it is the message that Kara and Lena are stronger when they are on good terms with each other. They need each other to succeed and they are willing to do pretty much anything for one another.

I hope the showrunners understand that they pretty much wrote each other into a corner and trying to pair Kara with any other person (aka William) will never feel genuine when she has that kind of connection and chemistry with Lena. At this point it's too late to develo another relationship with that kind of impact. Just let them get together and make your viewers happy.

I am also very excited to see more of vigilante Alex but please, change the makeup into a mask because it looks weird imo. Also, make Kelly the Guardian we all deserve and let these two women be badass crime fighting girlfriends in the next seasons!

Poor Brainy and Nia... I hope you'll let them be happy some day.

Anyways, it'll be a long hiatus and I already can't wait for next episodes. I hope you'll do better and we'll get to see the showrunners exploring the potential this show undoubtedly has.

A great makeshift finale.
munrogmclaren27 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
5x19 "Immortal Kombat" made a great makeshift finale. Though I am kinda annoyed that Lex and Leviathan will go over into Season 6, I did love that Lena is back with Team Supergirl. Lena and Kara teaming up is one of my favorite things on the show and I'm glad that we'll be getting that back.

Of course we couldn't have a Supergirl finale without one of Supergirl's famous hope speeches. While Rama Khan and Gema weren't the strongest villains in my opinion, everything else that happened in the episode made up for it. And that Lillian appearance at the end doesn't bode well for Team Supergirl. I can't wait for Season 6!

Great Episode except too much Lex Luthor
xenagabrielle-7739126 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I found this episode to be entertaining only because of Melissa, Chyler and David. Dreamer and Brainy for me take up alot of unnecessary screen time. Lena was also very good in this episode. I liked that Lena and SuperGirl were friends again at the end. What I did not like about this episode was that Brainy ends up having the role that SuperGirl should have (saving the world from Leviathan). The writers need to remember that the show is called SuperGirl.

Also, this show needs to end it with Lex Luthor - he is in it entirely too much.

A great ending
wjspears8 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say that I was not terribly enthusiastic with the first 5 or 6 episodes of Supergirl this season. A season revolving around the dangers of virtual reality looked pretty ho-hum, to me.

But the last 5 or 6 episodes were terrific, with its wonderful blend of action and heart. The nefarious plot behind the worldwide VR was wonderfully perverse, and the writers did a great job of bringing the special effects action into the mix.

The season long plot involving Lena Luther and Supergril/Kara Danvers was brought to a satisfying conclusion in the final episode. The plotline revolving around Brainy working alongside Lex Luther was probably to most unbelievable of all the plots this season. But even that was brought to a heartfelt and exciting conclusion.

And now we have Lex Luther and his mother in possession of the evil gods in a tube, and Supergirl and Lena Luther shaking hands, vowing to confront and take them the evil Luthers--even though presumably Lex is still considered a hero on this new earth..

It should be a fun final season for this well made and special superhero show.

And I'm being generous

Warning: Spoilers
Berlanti and crew continue to let the DC-based shows deteriorate. This used to be one of my favorite shows. Now, it's so...BASIC. Once again, the war is one, not by cooperation among the heroes who outwit the villains, but by some bad speechifying, that we only get parts of (this is a trick of all Berlanti shows; nobody seems to have much of a better idea). Two billion people are represented by two--some ratio! The battle scenes were so dumb. The addition of two more "gods" did nothing to enhance them--all they did was add lights to everything. Any rock show worth its salt could do better with a few underpowered lasers. Lena finally realized she was wrong. For a supposedly brilliant person, it sure took long enough (and don't even get me started on Brainy--if ever there was a misnomer, good lord). And Lex Luther is just so BORING. Not Jon Cryer, who does what he can with the role (the scene where he shows his viciousness in the prior week's episode was terrific, albeit too brief), but the writing is just so one-dimensional, so lacking in color, nuance, detail. I haven't seen such dull evil since Sue Sylvester in Glee (again a good actor stuck with unimaginative writing). I only watch the show for Melissa Benoit at this point. Her worried, concerned pouting is world's more interesting to watch than anything else going on in this show.
