Warning: contains spoilers for The Capture series one.
The Capture‘s first series saw Lance Corporal Shaun Emery (Callum Turner) go full circle. In episode one, he was released from prison – acquitted for a crime he had, in fact, committed – and then in episode six, he was imprisoned for a crime of which he was innocent. In between, the BBC surveillance thriller introduced viewers to a world in which you literally can’t believe your eyes. As Dci Rachel Carey (Strike‘s Holliday Grainger) discovered, the intelligence services were using ultra-sophisticated deepfake technology to conjure up court-admissible ‘evidence’ to ensure the criminal conviction of anybody they wanted convicted.
The situation turned out to be even more morally murky when the CIA whistle blower threatening to go public with the practice of CCTV footage “correction” turned out to be a double (triple?) agent planted by the CIA so that some elements...

Roku is officially dropping the Quibi name.
Roku announced that the content from its January acquisition of Quibi — the short-lived, short-form mobile entertainment startup founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg — will be rebranded as “Roku Originals.” The 75-plus original shows from Quibi will be available to watch for free on the ad-supported Roku Channel starting sometime this year, the company has said.
Roku Originals also will be the brand name for future original programming for The Roku Channel, which is currently available in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. The company said it will provide additional details next month about the launch of Roku Originals.
The collection of Quibi programming — snapped up by Roku after Katzenberg’s richly funded company shut its doors six months after launching — includes a dozen unreleased series that will debut for the first time on The Roku Channel. Roku snapped up the rights to the majority of Quibi’s multimillion-dollar portfolio original programming — more than 75 shows in all — and will make them available free to stream in 2021 on the Roku Channel.
Following Quibi’s decision last October to shut down after failing to attract a sustainable base of subscribers, Roku acquired Quibi Holdings LLC, the company that holds all of Quibi’s content distribution rights.
Financial terms of the pact were not disclosed. A source familiar with the agreement said Roku is paying “significantly” less than $100 million for the Quibi library, confirming an earlier Wall Street Journal report. Rob Holmes, Roku’s VP of programming, said in an interview, “We do think this deal represents a great value.”
“Fundamentally, we think that Quibi has created great, high-quality content,” Holmes told Variety. “It’s a great value proposition for our users… We’re pivoting from Quibi’s SVOD model to an ad-supported model,...

Against the backdrop of a global pandemic, during which millions of self-isolating individuals are tuning into home entertainment, the trends shaping global content have never been more evident.
Recent findings by London-based media research firm Ampere Analysis, which delivered a presentation as part of virtual event Miptv Plus, reveals an unscripted boom among streamers, as well as hot topics in drama and the go-to broadcasters for co-production.
Read on for key takeaways:
1) Unscripted delivers for global streamers
While drama remains the top genre across projects commissioned globally, with more than 500 projects in the works, documentary is not far behind, with 350 titles. A breakdown of Netflix’s TV acquisition run rate from June to December 2019 shows consistent volumes of documentary acquisitions (32 hours) and entertainment (16 hours) month to month, versus high-volume and high-variability acquisitions in genres such as children’s content (172 hours) and romance (182 hours), which indicate just a handful of package deals.

Quibi has added a slew of comedians, including “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star J.B. Smoove and Maya Rudolph — among several other former “Saturday Night Live” cast members — to its upcoming comedic murder-mystery series produced by Lorne Michaels and Seth Meyers, the company shared on Tuesday morning.
“Mapleworth Murders” will star Paula Pell as Abigail Mapleworth, a murder-mystery writer who solves homicides in her quaint small town of New Woodstream. Each episode of the series will feature guest victims and suspects as they answer the bigger question of the series: “Why the hell are there so many murders in the small town of New Woodstream?” The series was created by Pell and John Lutz, who will also star in the show.

Written by Oscar winner Peter Farrelly (Green Book), Steve Leff (The Ranch) and Pete Jones (Hall Pass), The Now is a comedy that examines what exactly makes life worth living. For Ed Poole (Dave Franco), clarity comes when a secret from his past has seemingly destroyed his future. He soon realizes the only thing that will make his life worth living is to forget the past, screw the future and just live in The Now.
Produced by Anonymous Content, the series will be directed by Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly, who most recently won two Oscars for writing and producing Green Book.
Late Anonymous Content founder Steve Golin and Jeff Okin are credited as executive producers.
